Division / Department - West Sussex Division Grade - Grade 9 Status - Full Time Contract Type - Fixed Term Contract Salary Grade Range - £23,946 - £26,208 Working Hours - 37.0 Hours per Week The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Youth Early Intervention Co-ordinator on West Sussex Division based on a fixed term contract/secondment, finishing 31 March 2021.

You will be a Divisional point of contact internally and externally, for children and young people diverted through the ‘Early Intervention Protocol’. You will be responsible for supporting a co-ordinated police and partner agency response to children at risk of being exposed to serious violence. You will also support co-ordinated police activity at Divisional level regarding strategies aimed at reducing the risk of entering into serious violence.

 

Key Responsibilities

To attend and represent Sussex police at governance/strategy meetings, case conferences (as required), multi agency risk assessment meetings and to provide police information as requested to assist in the decision making process for safeguarding. Be prepared to challenge outside agencies decisions when necessary and ensure protocols and policies are adhered to.

Influence the development of strategies with partner agencies to ensure safeguarding and policy compliance.

Ensure the risks are captured within each referral and make appropriate referral to CPT/Social services, Prevention Youth officers, Youth offending Services, PCLDS Scheme or other appropriate agencies.

Ensure compliance with the protocol at all stages and that a ‘child centred’ approach is adopted.

To gather police intelligence on individuals in relation to activities and associates in order to move the child/young person through the early intervention protocol. Share data with other agencies when appropriate and monitor and update the systems accordingly. To prepare and ensure the correct process is followed in this regard.

To support and coordinate the divisional response to the ‘Youth Early Intervention’ operationally and strategically in support of the Local Safeguarding Children’s Board sub group on that issue.

The post holder will need to collate a list of activities within the division for children and young people and actively seek to keep this up to date. They will use the activities through the stages of the protocol to divert children and young people away from the key drivers of crime. The post holder will need to be self-sufficient in collating this data.

Skills & Experience

IT Skills including Microsoft Office and use of Social Media. 

Suitable qualification in work related area or qualified to A level or equivalent.

Experience of working with voluntary, statutory, social or community groups.

Proven ability to create and maintain relationships, influence and persuade agencies in their support to help resolve problems and issues.

Experience of dealing directly with members of the public and providing a high level of customer service

Able to demonstrate a high level of oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write and present information to a wide range of people.

Ability to work without direct supervision and demonstrate a high level of self-management, motivation, drive and determination.

Ability to research Force systems, connect agencies via partnership IT Programme and identify issues. (Training will be given)

 Able to demonstrate a respect for the opinions, circumstances and feelings of others.

 Possess a high level of integrity and resilience.

 Able to work within a team.

 Understanding of confidentiality, data protection and freedom of information   legislation and how to apply this within the role.
