This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst continuing to be two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.
Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.
Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowance and hours.

The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.
The Role
The provision of the vehicle service arrangements for the JTS, ensuring they are designed and managed to achieve safe - efficient and cost effective preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair with minimum interference to the operational availability of vehicles
Key Responsibilities
1 Allocation of work to and supervision of all workshop personnel. To keep updated on Production board and Mission Critical board To liaise with workshop Senior Technicians, for work loading and vehicle status To Liaise with Stores Team Leader for Stock and Parts requirements, to include back order items. 2 Maintaining liaison with operational Police personnel in respect of vehicle availability, minimising down time. To liaise with Engineering Support to reduce Bulk and Surge 3 Ensuring that high standards of safety are maintained in the workshops at all times. This includes the local implementation of H&S management systems and inspections. To hold IOSH Certification and knowledge of LOLER & PUWER Regulations 4 Maintaining staff development (technical and personal) and welfare through close management and PDR process. To have an Industry recognised qualification, ICFM,SOOE,ITRE or equivalent(Desirable) 5 Advising workshop personnel on any practical or technical problems which arise. To keep abreast of industry notifications (DVSA, MOT, Manufacturers Bulletins) To maintain and record all Technical Manufacturers Recall Programmes 6 Examining and carrying out technical reporting on vehicle condition and defects. To ensure VHC & QCs are undertaken. & report on as required 7 Obtaining and scrutinising estimates for repairs to be undertaken by garage companies and making necessary arrangements for work to be carried out, in consultation with the Service Delivery Manager. Working to contracts / framework agreements where applicable. To liaise with the Engineering Support Department for any Technical advice required 8 Making local arrangements for the rectification of defects on vehicles under warranty. 9 Maximising income generation (third party work and in - house warranty). 10 Carrying out fault diagnosis, maintenance and testing duties. 11 Ensuring all required administration (stock counts - H&S - PDR’s etc) is carried out in a timely manner according to Force policy and or guidelines. 12 Manage satellite workshops and staff under the post holder’s responsibility. 13 To undertake all such other duties to the grade and character of work as may be required, including the specific duties of similar work or lesser graded posts.
Skills & Experience
Skills & Qualifications;
To hold City & Guilds Certification levels 1-3 in Motor Vehicle Engineering or industry recognised equivalent.
To have prior supervisory and management experience
To Maintain staff development (technical and personal) and welfare through close management and PDR process.
To have an Industry recognised qualification, ICFM,SOOE,ITRE or equivalent(Desirable)
