This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst continuing to be two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.

Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.

Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowance and hours.

The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

The Role

Sussex  and Sussex

Due to the nature of policing, in this role you will be expected to be able to support all areas of the workforce.

Minimum 15 hours per week. Hours worked are flexible, but should include one day during the week, and an evening and some weekend hours as agreed with manager on a flexible basis.

Key Responsibilities

To work as a member of the Occupational Health and Wellbeing team which will include health promotion activities and meetings.

  • To give health promotional advice and taking biometrics and explaining the results to people in a professional and motivating way.
  • Support the Wellbeing Lead in health campaigns and liaise with police and fire service fitness advisers.
  • Assist with health promotional campaigns.
  • Liaise with senior clinicians / Clinical Lead and where necessary local managers to take action where health check reveal health issue that means managerial action required, this includes both psychological and physical aspects of health. To be aware of confidentiality in all aspects of the role.
  • To assist with the continuing development of the OH & Wellbeing Service. Keep records of biometrics and analyse with support of Wellbeing Lead to identify hot spots areas of concern and create reports that can be used to show any improvements or decrease in health across time and themes in different services to better target and channel resources /campaigns in response to these trends.
  • To use the OH electronic operating system; Cohort or similar and maintain health records
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade and character of work as may be reasonably required, including specific duties of a similar or lesser graded post.

Skills & Experience

 At least one of the following:

  •  Registered Nurse
  •  Qualified OH Technician
  •  Physiologist
  •  Level 3 Personal Trainer

  

A driver who is happy to travel and be confident working on their own in varying locations, vehicle owner 

Demonstrate knowledge of working in a related area, health screening/mini medicals

Demonstrable knowledge of good working practices and administrative procedures

Experience of giving health promotional advice and taking biometrics and explaining the results to people in a professional and motivating way

Genuine interest in improving health of organisations through advice and campaigns

Have good knowledge of Microsoft Office eg. Word, Excel and databases

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, in order to deal courteously and effectively with all employees and using sensitivity and tact with confidential issues

Good written communication skills with the ability to check records and correspondence.

Attention to detail and accuracy

The ability to work calmly under pressure, and respond flexibly to changing and sometimes challenging demands

The ability to deal effectively and discreetly with confidential work, demonstrating diplomacy, confidentiality and initiative as required

Motivational interviewing experience in terms of changing/ improving health habits, compassionate and empathetic. Provide excellent customer service

Awareness of currently advised healthy parameters and current evidence for health parameters, knowledge and awareness of the evidence base for current advice and keep up to date with changes in this advice. To work using evidence based health promotional advice and research based knowledge
