Division / Department - Specialist Crime Grade - M1 Status - Full Time Contract Type - Fixed Term Contract Salary Grade Range - £42,207 - £46,437 Working Hours - 37.0 Hours per Week Shift Allowance - Politically Restricted - The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.
The Role
Are you a project management professional with experience of working in community safety or the criminal justice field? The Sussex Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP) is seeking a project manager to work with and support our partners in the delivery of responses to serious violence across Sussex.
The post is an integral part of the core VRP team and will be responsible for working closely with our local area VRPs to ensure that all commissioned projects and interventions meet the wider outcomes of the VRP and that robust performance monitoring processes are in place.
In addition to demonstrable experience of project management you will require excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with professionals at all levels, as well as having a naturally collaborative approach.
The post will provide support to the VRP Manager, including delegated responsibility, and will work closely with them and the VRP team to meet all Home Office grant requirements, including quarterly reporting, development of mandatory documents and budget management.
You will be responsible for supporting work on all VRP priorities, building trust with key leads and service providers, addressing identified challenges and developing new ways of working that ensure the sustainability of the partnership long-term.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist VRP project leads and providers to develop and manage commissioned projects and interventions that prevent and reduce serious violence across Sussex, including quality controls to manage risks, issues, realisation of outputs and outcomes in line with the with the VRP outcomes framework and evaluation strategy.
- Establish and implement effective monitoring and oversight of all VRP projects and interventions, identifying and communicating issues and risks and presenting on project status to the Sussex Violence Reduction Steering Group (SVRSG). Make recommendations on any remedial action required to the SVRSG.
- Maintain effective financial oversight of all VRP programme spend, including individual projects. Ensure that all VRP projects and core spend are delivered in accordance with Sussex Police financial regulations, commissioning and procurement rules and Home Office conditions of grant.
- Collate information for all Home Office monitoring requirements. Complete quarterly reports, financial returns and other ad hoc reporting as and when required. Assist with the development and completion of all VRU and other relevant funding applications.
- Attend all relevant partnership meetings, providing strategic advice and guidance to professionals on VRP programme policy and direction. Work with external and internal stakeholders, including VRP partners, providers and funders to facilitate the delivery of the Response Strategy and the Serious Violence Duty.
- Conduct research and produce quality briefings, reports, presentations and other documents for internal and external meetings.
- Build and develop strong relationships with senior leads within Sussex Police, the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, partner organisations, national VRUs and the Home Office to ensure the sharing of good practice, identify interdependencies across workstreams and create opportunities for collaboration and the sustainability of the VRP.
- Support with the completion of Home Office mandatory documents including the Response Strategy, Strategic Needs Assessment and Annual Report.
- Deputise for the VRP Manager as and when required.
- Provide line management to the VRP Project Coordinator

Skills & Experience
Essential
- Educated to degree level or equivalent by experience e.g. Chartered Management Institute or relevant qualification.

Demonstrable knowledge and experience in the principles, methods, techniques and tools for the effective management of projects from initiation through to implementation.
- Substantial experience and knowledge of working in a partnership environment, preferably within a community safety or criminal justice field.
- Ability to inform, advise, negotiate and influence at all levels, including senior colleagues and partners.
- Pro-active, self-disciplined approach to tasks with the ability to be flexible and work to tight timescales with minimum management direction.
- Experience of building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders, inspiring confidence, winning trust and acting with honesty and integrity.
- Ability to manage, motivate and also work as part of a team.
- Demonstrable experience of managing staff, including performance management and coaching skills.
- Must be able to demonstrate being pro-active, flexible, open minded and innovative in style; willing to experiment with new ideas and implement
- Demonstrable experience in the use of Microsoft Office products to a high level particularly Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
Desirable
- Working knowledge of the public health approach to violence reduction and the Government’s Serious Violence Strategy.
