The Role & Key Responsibilities

We are seeking a talented senior leader to take our established and successful violence reduction partnership forward into the future.

The Violence Reduction Partnership Manager is a key role, responsible for driving the public health approach to serious violence in Sussex, collaborating with our partners to implement system change across organisations.

The post holder should have excellent communication skills with the ability to manage strategic relationships across partners, stakeholders and local government; To define the long term vision and strategic objectives of the VRP, ensuring that they are translated into operational delivery, programmes and policy.

This is a varied and demanding role, and you will be required to be flexible and work at pace, managing multiple and often competing priorities. The key responsibilities are set out below:

  • Lead the delivery of the Sussex Violence Reduction Partnership, which takes a public health approach to serious violence and exploitation, and brings together existing structures to maximise collaboration, co-production, cross agency and place-based working.
  • Act as a strategic adviser to the Police & Crime Commissioner, providing independent, timely and expert advice, identifying and progressing matters requiring decision, scrutiny and/or action.
  • Provide strategic advice to the Sussex Violence Reduction Partnership and Executive Board Members on development and management of the VRPs programmes and policy activity, including implementation of the Serious Violence Duty. Identify and support synergy with programmes led and funded outside of the partnership.
  • Lead the VRP team to develop and implement strategies and plans which support the creation and delivery of activities to prevent and reduce violence, vulnerability and exploitation in Sussex. Ensure the use of rigid performance management processes that measure the success of the VRP.
  • Continually develop and review the VRP activity and operations to ensure an effective and efficient organisation is in place to support priorities and business objectives.
  • Build and maintain constructive relationships with key national and regional stakeholders, including the Home Office, Criminal Justice services Sussex Police, Local Authorities, Community Safety Partnerships, NHS Sussex, Education, Fire & Rescue and relevant voluntary sector organisations.
  • Attend all relevant Force and partnership boards and meetings, providing reports, presentations updates and advice where required.
  • Ensure that efficient strategies, plans and mechanisms are in place to commission services to support delivery of priorities. Oversee commissioning processes where relevant and ensure compliance with all procurement rules and processes.
  • Champion, promote and embed collaborative working within the VRP and across all partnership arrangements locally, regionally and nationally.
  • Ensure the provision of an effective, co-ordinated media and communications and community engagement service to enhance public understanding and awareness of the VRP.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade and character of work as may be reasonably required, including specific duties of a similar or lesser graded post.

 

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Professional or Graduate level qualification and/or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Experience of operating in a complex, multi-agency environment building effective relationships with internal and external partners – trusted and credible with political astuteness to drive culture and operational change across a diverse partnership.
  • Experience in managing staff, including coaching, mentoring and performance management.
  • Experience of monitoring and research evaluation, including use of management information and KPIs to demonstrate performance and progress achieved.
  • Detailed knowledge of the risk and protective factors in violence prevention and reduction, and understanding of the key types of violence, vulnerabilities and exploitation prevalent in Sussex.
  • Experience of managing and overseeing complex budgets.
  • Understanding of data quality, information management and information governance.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to engage with a range of diverse audiences.
  • Project / Programme Management skills - Able to make operational and business decisions, applying appropriate frameworks, models and risk management processes and anticipating the implications of decisions
  • Knowledge of current issues facing the public sector and policing.
  • Ability to utilise a full range of standard office IT software/packages.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the dynamics of operating across two tier local authority areas.

Desirable:

  • Experience of commissioning.
