Vacancy Information

Could you help us to maintain our police vehicles?
We are looking for Vehicle Maintenance Volunteers to join our Safer Neighbourhood Teams in each of our eleven boroughs*. This is a flexible opportunity for volunteers to support our teams in a very practical way!

*Our boroughs are divided into three divisions as follows:
East Surrey - Epsom & Ewell, Mole Valley, Reigate & Banstead, Tandridge
North Surrey - Elmbridge, Runnymede, Spelthorne
West Surrey - Guildford, Surrey Heath, Waverley and Woking

The Role

By becoming a Vehicle Maintenance Volunteer you will help our teams ensure that police vehicles are maintained, equipped and presented to a professional standard.

Once you have completed your initial practical training, you will be asked to commit to a minimum of six hours of volunteering per week between the core business hours of 08:00 and 20:00 Monday to Sunday.

Key Responsibilities

As a Vehicle Maintenance Volunteer you will be involved in a number of tasks including:

- Cleaning and undertaking basic maintenance checks on police vehicles (e.g. oil, tyre pressure etc.) which will supplement the system of checks that are already in place
- Updating inventories of vehicle equipment and maintaining the vehicle kit to the required standards
- Reporting any damage and/or loss of vehicle equipment
- Highlighting any issues with vehicles to the attention of a supervisor
- Occasionally moving vehicles from one location to another

Further information can be found within the role profile attached to this advert below.

Skills & Experience

You will need to have excellent attention to detail and good communication skills. You will be asked to work independently as well as with others, so the ability to work within a team will be important.

You will need to hold a full current driving licence. It would be desirable if this licence included the D1 category as well as C1, but this is not essential.

If you have previous experience of vehicle maintenance and/or presentation, that would be advantageous but again this is not essential.
