Key Responsibilities
To be aware of the relevant casualty reduction sites and be familiar with the specialist equipment and tactics used to promote road safety.
Supporting the NPCC calendar for national initiatives to tackle the Fatal 5
Be familiar with legislation and processes to deal with instances of dangerous, inconsiderate and anti-social driver behaviour.
Have a clear understanding of the reporting and investigating procedures of all collisions.
Skills & Experience
You must have successfully completed you probationary period.
You must display that you are motivated and pro active.
You must be able to make decisions based upon you own initiative and with minimal supervision and be able to work as part of a team.
You must display a high level of interpersonal skills and project confidence in the handling of difficult situations.
You must have an understanding and acknowledgement that RPU officers have to attend a high proportion of potentially stressful incidents which may include:
• Life threatening and fatal collisions
• Viewing and having physical contact with those that are severely or fatally injured
• Dealing with distressed and agitated victims and offenders
• Delivering death messages and information to bereaved next of kin, relatives and friends.
RPU officers must have the ability to acknowledge and recognise such issues as likely sources of stress in their everyday work and must be prepared to address any difficulties promptly with the support of their line manager.
You must be at least a standard response permit holder and pass an advanced check drive before being offered a position.
Successful applicants will be subject to a probationary period within RPU and be required to complete the RPU learner development portfolio.
