The Role

This role provides the unique opportunity to have a direct impact on the future of Surrey Police by supporting and guiding our newest recruits through the completion of their full operational competence portfolio (FOC).

Dependent on qualifications you may hold, you may also assess the portfolios required for Police Community Support Officers and Investigating Officers.

We will provide assessment training and support you in gaining an Assessors Qualification. 

The purpose of the PDA role is:

  • To collect, review and assess evidence submitted by the candidate to ensure that it is valid, authentic, sufficient and reliable evidence as per awarding body criteria.
  • To support the candidate throughout their qualification; liaising with stakeholders in relation to their performance, development and welfare

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out candidate assessments, ensuring that the candidate is aware of their own responsibility in the assessment process and interpreting the qualification requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for the candidate to demonstrate competence and collect valid, authentic, sufficient and reliable evidence for the qualification.
  • Negotiate individual assessment plans with the candidate.
  • Assess the candidate evidence against the qualification standards over a period of time using a range of methods.
  • Make objective assessment decisions and provide constructive feedback to the candidate.
  • Ensure fair assessment and equality of opportunity for the candidate within the assessment process.
  • Maintain assessor records of the candidate’s progress and achievement. Review and record progress and achievements with the candidate.
  • Meet regularly with the other assessors, internal verifiers, centre coordinator and external verifier (as requested) to standardise and discuss assessment decisions.

It is essential for the post holder to:

  • Be operationally and occupationally competent in the qualification they are assessing and maintain their competency.

It is desirable for the post holder to:

  • Have an understanding of the assessment process and/or experience in assessment.

We have four teams across the force: North, West, East and HQ. Locations can be discussed at interview stage. Due to the nature of the role, we work in an agile manner. Working from home is allowed and expectations around this can be discussed at interview stage. Happy to discuss part time working.
