The Role

The Technical Training Team within the Force Learning & Professional Development Department (L&PD) is seeking to recruit a highly organised and motivated individual. The core function will be the training design and delivery of I.T. applications for Police Officers and Police Staff, although you will be required to deliver training in any subject as directed by the training supervisor. You will be heavily involved in developing and providing I.T. training for Police Officers, Police Community Support Officers and Police staff so previous experience within a policing organisation would be beneficial. Working as part of a team you’ll produce, maintain and upgrade training products that meet both National (e.g. Home Office/NPCC/College of Policing) and Sussex Police criteria. This post is a permanent position.

Key Responsibilities

Delivery of all training delivered by the Technical Training Team, which would include taking a prominent role in training Sussex Niche courses including Niche Crime and Niche Case File build.

Delivery of a variety of courses which could include Airwave, Niche, Police National Computer, Casualty Bureau, Force Contact Command and Control department courses and any other course that sits within the Technical Training team portfolio.

Design and develop courses in line with the Force priorities, Force projects, and personal developmental requests.

Produce lesson plans which are Force standard, reflect National Occupational standards and are regularly updated.

Complete training packages with rationale, aims and objectives and supporting materials to the standards required by the Learning & Professional Development Department.

Prepare written reports on students’ progress and take an active role in providing and receiving constructive feedback to and from training colleagues and students.

Evaluate internally / externally produced training materials and products.

Establish effective networks with key internal and external partners to implement collaborative approaches to learning and development.

To develop and maintain strong relationships with key departments both in Sussex and Surrey in order to ensure appropriate content is being delivered to students.

To undertake such other duties appropriate to the grade and character of work as may reasonably be required, including the specific duties of similar or lesser graded posts.

Skills & Experience

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who possesses excellent communication, creativity and planning skills.

A Level 3 or 4 training qualification (e.g. NVQ, Certificate / Diploma in teaching in the Life Long Learning Sector, Certificate in Education or equivalent) is highly desirable, however applications will be considered from individuals without such a qualification with the expectation that one will be obtained whilst in post.

Has good working knowledge of using Niche. Experience in crime creation and case file building is highly desirable but not mandatory.

Exceptional presentation skills with the ability to facilitate workshops for individuals & teams. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to produce clear, concise and accurate records and reports.

Is fully conversant with Microsoft Office products, with accurate keyboard skills.

Highly motivated with the ability to work on own initiative under minimal supervision.

Proficient in delivering training relating to IT systems utilising desktop hardware and peripherals; including specific software and operating systems; Office applications and other specialist application software installed and operated from end-user devices.

The role is predominantly based at Headquarters but some travel may be required across the Force area. Therefore, a driving licence would be desirable.
