The Role

Job Title;  Police Constable, Surrey & Sussex Surveillance Team

Tenure in Post;   Minimum 3 years

Reports to; Sergeant; Surveillance Team

Location; Surrey & Sussex Police HQ as base station

 

Key Accountabilities;

To covertly undertake Observations and Surveillance as a member of the surveillance team in order to secure evidence and/or intelligence in support of Cluster/Force/Regions intelligence operations.

or

To covertly undertake Observations and Surveillance as the teams’ Motorcyclist in order to secure evidence and/or intelligence in support of Cluster/Force/Regions intelligence operations.

When required, to undertake the role of an operational liaison officer, ensuring that surveillance operatives are fully briefed prior to deployment and to ensure all opportunities to gather evidence and/or intelligence are identified.

To ensure that the intelligence gathered during the course of surveillance is disseminated efficiently and effectively.

To maintain knowledge and awareness of significant changes in criminal law and procedure and developments in surveillance techniques, training and equipment.

To be responsible and accountable for the care and maintenance of equipment and vehicles.

The development of professional contacts within other agencies. To maintain knowledge of their working practices and identify opportunities to provide and receive specialist assistance when necessary.

To report directly to the Detective/Police Sergeant on matters regarding procedure, staffing issues and equipment, ensuring that all matters are dealt with effectively and in line with current guidelines.

To carry out any other duties as may be determined by the Detective Inspector – Covert intelligence Development.

To be part of the on call South East Region Crime in Action Surveillance Team.

Note - This role is subject to a 3 Year Minimum tenure.

Skills & Experience

Essential - A current Q1 surveillance licence together with a current advanced driving qualification/permit

Optional - To be in possession of a current Police Advanced motorcycle licence. To be in possession of a current Q2/Q200 Surveillance Motorcyclist licence.

Desirable - Q8 SFIC Firearms and CROPS training are desirable

Vetting level of SC or above

The applicant must have attended a national/local log and disclosure course

A good working knowledge of relevant guidance within the ACPO Surveillance Manual 2006, including RIPA and associate authorities is required
