Vacancy Information
Surrey Police’s ability to protect communities, catch criminals and deliver an outstanding service relies on the confidence of the public. Trust, transparency and integrity are fundamental to this; ensuring we are able to police by consent, deliver an effective policing approach and treat all people with fairness, respect and dignity.
Our bi-monthly Ethics Committee, has been newly established to help us enhance the trust and confidence in both the ethical governance and actions of Surrey Police. With a commitment to promote equality and diversity across our organisation, and in the way we represent the county of Surrey, the membership of the committee will be made up internally and externally; ensuring we benefit from a diverse range of thought, backgrounds and experience that can support and challenge us to achieve more.
To support this, we are inviting applications to join our Ethics Committee as a Committee Member to help promote the highest standards of ethical conduct, making a difference across our organisation and the communities we serve.
As a member of the Ethics Committee you will provide crucial support to our force, at a time when public confidence in policing is particularly critical.
The Role
Attending up to six committee meetings per year, you will act as trusted advisor to decision makers on a wide range of issues – raised by officers and staff across the force - which have a degree of ethical or moral dilemma.
Examples of these questions include: Should Artificial Intelligence be used to make policing more efficient? Should names from misconduct hearings be published? Should Police Officers be allowed Tattoos that cannot be covered?
Your advice on these matters will then be used to strengthen our policing approach.
Meetings will be face-to-face at Surrey Police Headquarters in Guildford, however some may be virtual. While the post is voluntary, travel expenses will be reimbursed.
