This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst continuing to be two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.

Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.

Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowance and hours.

The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Exhibits and Disclosure Officers.

 

The Exhibits and Disclosure Team is part of the Surrey and Sussex Specialist Crime Command operating out of bases in Woking and Lewes. The team is viewed as a specialist resource for the investigation of homicide, kidnap, incidents of Serious Organised Crime and Fraud.  

 

We are looking to recruit 2 Exhibits and Disclosure Officers in Sussex. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with statutory obligations surrounding disclosure and ensuring the integrity of exhibits within major investigations.

 

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for examining and assessing all documentation within investigations conducted in Specialist Crime on behalf of the SIO and OIC, deciding on the relevancy of that material to the investigation and suitable disclosure methods.

 

You will be required to use HOLMES, Altia and Niche databases to prepare accurate, comprehensive and ethical disclosure schedules for the Prosecutor.

 

You will be required to attend Court throughout the duration of trials, at the discretion of the SIO, OIC and E&D Manager.  

 

You will be responsible for the secure storage and safekeeping of exhibits in accordance with the Major Incident Room Standard Administrative Procedures (MIRSAP) and Force policies and procedures, ensuring continuity and integrity of all exhibits.  

 

You will be required to work alongside the Case Officer in the preparation of files for submission to CPS and to deal with subsequent CPS and defence requests.

 

You will be responsible for archiving or disposal of all exhibits and documentation following conclusion of cases, in accordance with relevant legislation.

 

Skills & Experience

You should have proven and well evidenced experience in an investigative role and be able to understand the complexities and sensitivities of crime investigations. It is vital that you ensure the material is assessed both thoroughly and accurately to negate all associated risks to the investigation and the reputation of Surrey and Sussex Police.

 

You should have experience in and be fully familiar with all relevant aspects of the Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act 1996, Codes of Practice, Data Protection Act and The Attorney General Guidelines.

 

You should have the ability to work on your own initiative and prioritise your workload effectively to ensure compliance with deadlines whilst managing a demanding workload.

 

You should be motivated and resilient with a positive and flexible approach and have excellent communication and inter-personal skills, both oral and written.

 

You need to be able to work as part of a team, assisting colleagues when necessary.
