The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.
The Role
The main responsibility of the role is to work as part of a team of police officers and police staff risk assessing, investigating and safeguarding those involved in incidents that fall into the three disciplines of the SIU – domestic abuse, child abuse and vulnerable adults. The bulk of the work will be within the domestic abuse arena.
You will manage your own workload comprising of domestic abuse and vulnerable adults abuse as well as being tasked by your Sergeant with assisting your colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
The key responsibilities are to liaise with Social Services, Outreach organisations and other key agencies involved with the welfare of vulnerable people; to provide support and protection to victims; to be part of a team that carries out criminal investigations and the arrest and interview of suspects, obtaining evidence from victims, witnesses and other sources, ensure a high standard of case building and attend court.
Skills & Experience
It is essential that applicants have a sound knowledge and recent experience of criminal investigation techniques and practices.
It is desirable that the applicant has an understanding of inter-agency working practices.
Further Information
Due to the nature of the investigations dealt with by the unit, the post holder must be willing to participate in the Force’s occupational health support program and submit to the force’s enhanced vetting process. The post holder will also be required to undertake further training to develop additional skills.

Successful applicants will be required to attend the upcoming Investigating Officer training course at HQ commencing on 11 January 2021 for 8 weeks. The course is full-time Monday-Friday.
We anticipate vacancies at all 3 SIUs over the next year, so some successful candidates might be placed in a pool awaiting future posting for any of the three Divisions (Reigate, Guildford or Staines). We currently have a larger number of vacancies in North Surrey (Staines).
Please note that we have introduced Agile Working and therefore there will be flexibility on your work location, unless you are part of the duty team. You will be issued with a laptop to enable you to work from alternative locations.
