Would you like to be a part of your local policing team and help build positive relationships with your communities by providing reassurance and reducing the fear of crime in Epsom and Ewell?
Our Epsom and Ewell Safer Neighbourhood Team are looking for volunteers to join them to help keep local communities informed of policing activity through positive and regular engagement.
The Role
This volunteer role is for you if:
• You have an interest in your community and would like help improve the relationship between community groups and Surrey Police
• You can communicate clearly and enjoy working with lots of different individuals/groups at the same time
• You enjoy working with others to achieve shared goals
As a Safer Neighbourhood Volunteer you will have the opportunity to:
• Join a proactive policing team and work alongside police officers and staff
• Gain an understanding of neighbourhood policing
• Build relationships within Surrey Police across policing teams
• Interact with the public and other emergency services, public sector and charitable organisations
• Learn new transferable skills and gain valuable work experience
Key Responsibilities
The main responsibility of a Safer Neighbourhood Volunteer will be to engage with local communities in Epsom and Ewell to help build positive relationships and breakdown perceptions around policing.
This will involve:
• Supporting Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) activity to target specific issues within communities
• Assisting our designing out crime officers with the dissemination of crime prevention advice
• Using online systems and social media channels to promote the work of the SNT
• Coordinating local events such as drop-in centres, beat surgeries and partnership days
• Participating in specific community initiatives such as school engagement programmes
• Connecting with local watch schemes providing information and support when required
• Assisting with the extraction and review of local crime information
Skills & Experience
As a Safer Neighbourhood Volunteer you will need to have great attention to detail and administration skills including the ability to use Microsoft Office programmes such as Word and Excel. You will need to be well-organised and be able to plan and coordinate key tasks/events. Finally, and most importantly, you will need to have good communication skills and be able to work well within a team.
