Are you able to commit four hours of your time each week to your local Neighbourhood Policing Team?
If so, then becoming a Rural Engagement Volunteer may be the perfect opportunity for you!
We are looking for volunteers to help us improve the engagement we have with our rural communities.

The Role

This volunteer role is for you if:
• You have an interest your local community and would like help us to develop a rural community network
• You can communicate clearly and enjoy engaging with lots of different people
• You enjoy being part of a team who work together to achieve shared goals

You will provide effective community liaison with a variety of rural bodies, residents’ groups, landowners and individuals on a range of issues, predominantly focussing on engaging issues of a rural nature and ensuring that those living and working in remote locations are kept informed of our policing activity.

Through your actions, you will make a valuable contribution to helping us increase trust, confidence & satisfaction within rural communities and assisting in our overarching aim of preventing, reducing & solving crimes of a rural nature.

Key Responsibilities

As a Rural Engagement Volunteer your main responsibilities will include:
• Developing a network with local rural communities and helping Neighbourhood Policing Teams to keep these networks informed of Surrey Police activity
• Producing tailored local messages with a rural crime focus which promote positive local policing
• Providing a consistent point of contact and dialogue to ensure that engagement is maintained with rural community networks and other stakeholders as appropriate
• Developing an understanding of local policing activity in relation to rural crime and assisting the Force with publicising this (both within Surrey Police and within local external media)

Skills & Experience

Your enthusiasm and commitment will help you to integrate into your busy neighbourhood policing team, working alongside Police Officers and Police Staff.

Key to your success as a Rural Engagement Volunteer will be your interpersonal and communication skills and an interest in rural or activities of country life. You will need to be able to summarise information into concise and informative updates. You may be asked to use technology and social media to engage with our communities but we will support you to do this.

Ideally you will have administration experience and your ability to plan and organise will help you to complete key tasks within your volunteering time with us.

Previous experience of volunteering, community engagement and/or working within police environment would be advantageous but is not essential as you will be fully supported by your policing team.
