Vacancy Information
Training for Sussex Police Officers, Specials Constables, PCSOs and police staff is delivered by the Learning and Development Department based at Force Headquarters at Lewes.
Officers’ skills are tested in a number of ways. One of which is to test how they respond in practical situations. The force uses a number of volunteers as role players who are briefed and will play their part in a scenario designed to test the officer’s response.
Please note, this is an ad hoc role and volunteers will be required during the day at Lewes HQ. Volunteers will be given advance notice when they are required.
Chief Constables' Message
We really welcome your interest in joining our Police Force. It is a privilege to lead the teams in Surrey Police and Sussex Police who continuously work selflessly and tirelessly in order to keep people in our counties safe.
We are looking for talented and inspirational people who put the needs of the public at the heart of everything that they do and who want to make a difference. If you feel you are that person then we want to hear from you.
We wish you all the very best with your application.
Chief Constable Tim De Meyer & Chief Constable Jo Shiner
The Role & Key Responsibilities
Role players bring a degree of realism and authenticity to officer training and the force is looking to recruit a pool of volunteers to call upon to assist with this aspect of police officer training. You could be involved with a variety of scenarios – ranging from stop searches, conflict situations, detained shoplifters, public order offences and many others.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assisting the Learning and Development team to deliver scenario-based training.
• Actively taking part in scenarios and follow the guidelines from the trainers so the scenarios achieve the learning outcomes for officers.
• Provide feedback to the trainers where appropriate.
Skills & Experience
This role requires no specific role play skills and you don’t have to be a trained actor! However, it would be helpful if you are comfortable communicating with different people and be able to work effectively as part of a team. The role will potentially involve role players being handcuffed.
