This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst continuing to be two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.

Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.

Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowance and hours.

The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

The Role

Surrey Police is currently looking to recruit a police staff  "Protection Officer" to work as part of the protection team at a high profile residence in the area. This position offers an exciting opportunity to provide support to the site over a 24 hour/7 day period.

All candidates are required to undertake the force fitness test (Bleep test) to level 5.4 a pass is a requirement to move forward to interview.

The Role also includes an unsocial hours payment of £5622 per annum on top of the yearly incremental pay.

24 Hour shift Roster: Early Turn 0600 - 1445, Late Turn 1230 - 2145, Night Duty 2100 - 0600. Staff will work 2 Early turn shifts, 2 Late turn shifts, 2 Night duty shifts followed by 4 days off.

Key Responsibilities

The role will involve working within the control room on site operating CCTV and other associated technical security equipment within the security lodge. The role involves a myriad of responsibilities, one of which is conducting proactive security patrols on foot or in the site utility vehicle to detect and deter un-authorised entry to the site. On a daily basis there will be on site technical screening of deliveries to the site and physical searches of contractor/delivery vehicles entering the protected area.

Skills & Experience

We are looking for a person who possess excellent interpersonal skills together with the ability to communicate with people at all levels.

The ability to assimilate information into effective action and to make reasonably timed effective decisions under pressure.

To work well as part of a small team, to be able to stay motivated, alert and vigilant during prolonged periods including during night shift.

To be able to satisfactorily complete the training on the CCTV equipment and other associated technical equipment used within the control room.

To be able to produce clear, legible, concise and accurate written and electronic records.  
Must be computer keyboard literate and have practical experience of Surrey and Sussex computer data systems, experience of Niche and Pronto is desirable.

Previous experience of dealing with confrontational situations would be advantageous.

Further Information

Candidates will be required to pass the related fitness assessment to the standard required by occupational health department. (This is not an annual assessment but candidates must show that they can pass the fitness test prior to interview) Candidates who have documentary evidence showing they have passed the current fitness test for their current role will not have to complete the test.

Must pass the Surrey Police eyesight test (with/without corrected vision) to enable them to drive the on site electric utility buggy.

To work on a rotating 24 hour shift roster including Christmas, bank holidays and weekend working.

The post holder will security cleared (CTC level) for this role.
