This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst continuing to be two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.
Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.
Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowance and hours.

The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.
The Role
Permanent Applications are invited for the post of Cyber Protect and Prepare officer on the Cyber Crime Unit (CCU) based at Haywards Heath, West Sussex. Surrey and Sussex Cyber Crime unit is a collaborative team of officers and staff with the responsibility to tackle Cyber crime under the 4 Ps framework of Serious and Organised Crime - Prevent, Pursue, Prepare, Protect.
This is an exciting role with the aim to reduce the overall impact from Cyber Crime in Surrey and Sussex through development of innovative operations, programs and engagement. The role holder will have responsibility for delivering the Protect and Prepare strands as outlined in the Job Role and under the Serious and Organised Crime Strategy.
Core hours are Monday – Friday 0800-1600hrs Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. There is no current on-call requirement. Although this is a full time position, flexible working options are available.

Key responsibilities
• Deliver cybercrime prevention advice to businesses and the public that is consistent with the NCSC’s advice, guidance, and products. Make full use of the Cyber Aware and Take Five law enforcement communications toolkit.
• Help organisations build resilience to respond to cyber incidents through planning and exercising.
• Be the Single Point of Contact to help develop Surrey and Sussex staff understanding and capability with the aim that all front line staff should be equipped with the appropriate level of knowledge to advise the public to an acceptable minimum standard.
• To be credible to partners by being trained and accredited to an industry recognised standard including attendance on courses, CPD events, conferences including out of force residential courses and events. Training must be maintained to ensure credibility. • To lead and coordinate PROTECT & PREPARE work and messaging across both forces, to businesses and the public.
• To have the specialist knowledge and credibility to advise businesses and larger organisations at the higher level how to protect themselves and respond to incidents to recover to business as usual as quickly as possible.
• To represent Surrey and Sussex as part of the regional cyber protect capability
• To take responsibility for and undertake cyber protect taskings from the ROCU.
• Utilise Surrey and Sussex Cyber Crime Profiles.
• Promote Cyber Essentials as the government approved benchmark and accreditation for organisations to show they are cyber secure.
• Promote membership of the NCSC’s Cyber Security Information Sharing Platform as the best source of up to date threat intelligence and advice for business. · Undertake local campaigns in response to local threats using nationally approved messaging. To be delivered through an active online social media presence.
• Deliver the PREPARE outcome that 100% of victims who report to Action Fraud will get advice in person or over the telephone to prevent them becoming repeat victims
• Deliver PROTECT outcome that 75% of organisations and the public who receive advice will change their behaviours as a result
• Deliver PREPARE outcome that 75% of organisations who receive PREPARE advice will develop or review incident response plans and test them
• Host and present cyber awareness briefings and presentations to Surrey and Sussex internal departments, partners, law enforcement, public and industry with differing audience sizes.
• Identify, develop and maintain partnerships with businesses and industry with regard to cyber crime initiatives, collaboration opportunities and promotion of Protect and Prepare agenda.
• Host and participate in exercises as appropriate to help build resilience to respond to cyber incidents
• To participate in collating data to support performance management
• To conduct all responsibilities in adherence with all relevant legislation, codes of practice, standards, protocols, procedures and guidelines
• Undertake other duties relating to the work of the Cyber Crime Unit as deemed appropriate by Supervision

• A willingness to achieve and maintain knowledge of existing and emerging threats and risks in the digital and cyber world that are relevant to policing and law enforcement and the PROTECT, PREPARE strands.
• A flexible approach towards achieving Unit objectives to fulfil the commitments set out in the CCU Service Delivery Plan and PROTECT, PREPARE strategies. Desireable Skills criteria
• Qualifications in cyber security, computer science or computer forensics;
• Working knowledge of Computer Misuse Act and threats in the cyber landscape
• Understanding of issues around commercial confidentiality and sensitivity
