The Office of the Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner is looking to recruit a highly motivated Project Officer to work within the newly formed Video Enabled Policing (VEP) Programme. The programme has secured a one-year Spending Review settlement as part of the National Capabilities Programmes hosted by the Police Digital Service (PDS), which will be delivered over financial year (FY) 2021/22.

This is an exciting, high-profile national programme which aims to realise significant benefits and efficiencies for policing. Investing in innovation, technology, and new ways of working to maximise productivity and efficiency gains for policing is at the heart of the programme’s vision and is in full alignment with the National Policing Digital Strategy 2020-30.

The Role

This fixed term post will provide essential support to the Programme Team, consultants and other team managers. The role will also support day-to-day programme activities including the production of project management documentation. In addition, the post holder will record and analyse data in order to identify solutions to risks and issues which could impact on programme delivery, as well as managing and delivering both small-scale projects and individual stages within the programme, on time, within budget and to specification.

Key Responsibilities

As VEP Project Officer, you will hold responsibility for progressing and completing project actions and work packages, ensuring that tasks are dealt with proactively and problems resolved successfully, in turn contributing to successful programme delivery. You will contribute to driving programme performance by monitoring and evaluating programme feedback, data, lessons learned and other statistical/qualitative information, in order to identify trends, draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations to the Programme Management Team. Furthermore, you will play a critical role in supporting robust governance arrangements by delivering administrative support for VEP Programme Boards.

Skills & Experience

Able to work through issues, weigh up alternatives and identify the most effective solutions and take account of the wider business context when considering options to resolve issues.

Able to explore a range of possibilities and creative alternatives to contribute to systems, process and business improvements and implement systems and processes that underpin high quality research and analysis.

Systematically scan the environment to draw in new ideas or thinking and continually consider ‘how could we do this better?’.

Ability to think analytically (considering the full range of implications and identifying patterns or trends) to think through issues critically, spot opportunities and develop creative solutions.

Build and maintain rapport with their contacts internally and externally to both draw on best practice and support them to work constructively across the organisation.

Are flexible and responsive, adapting their approach to meet needs.

View issues from multiple perspectives (contextualising the issues broadly, analysing multiple links and implications and boiling down complexity) to develop creative strategies and solutions.

Able to identify opportunities to work collaboratively with other teams/units to solve issues and develop better processes and approaches to work.

Seek and respond positively to constructive feedback and guidance and continuously examine and reflect on own performance and demonstrate a high level of personal motivation; looking for and taking advantage of opportunities to learn new skills and develop strengths.

Communicate effectively, tailoring their communication for different audiences to ensure their proposals are clearly understood.

Additional Information

Applicants will be required to obtain and maintain vetting status to HM Government Standards set out in the Manual of Protective Security for the required level of this post.

This is a fixed term post to the 31st March 2022.
