The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen within West POLIT based at Centenary House, Worthing for one full time and one part time (29 hrs per week) police staff PIP Level 2 investigator posts.
The majority of work undertaken by POLIT is the development of intelligence from internal sources and external agencies including the National Crime Agency (NCA), Regional Organised Crime Units (ROCU) and other Force Child Abuse Units to identify and arrest those responsible for possession, making and distribution of child abuse images or internet based offending whereby children are targeted.
The shift pattern is based Monday to Friday and flexibility is a must with pre-planned early starts when undertaking pro-active warrants and arrests.
Key Responsibilities
As OIC, you will be responsible for investigating people targeting children in your local area for sexual gratification. This ranges from the possession / distribution of indecent images of children (IIOC), sexual communications with children and contact offences. The role requires regular early starts to undertake pro-active warrants, arrests and subsequently custody and investigative functions.
You will safeguard children and represent Sussex Police at multi agency strategy discussions, contributing to safeguarding plans for vulnerable children.
You will prepare evidential files for court and liaise with the CPS.
Whilst investigating POLIT PIP1 and PIP2 criminal investigations, you will be willing to support major crime investigations where required.
Skills & Experience
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
You must be PIP Level 2 accredited, or be PIP Level 1 accredited with a current live pass in the National Investigators Exam (NIE).
If you are PIP 1 with a current live pass in the NIE, you would be expected to qualify as PIP 2 within 18 months of appointment.
NB: Failure to achieve the PIP 2 qualification may lead to a requirement to move back to the previous role if an internal candidate, or to a more appropriate role if an external candidate.
There is a lot of travel in the POLIT role which covers most of West Sussex, so having a full driving licence as well as force issued BDA permit is essential.
This role will not be suitable for staff on recuperative duties, as it involves regular early starts, attending addresses, seizing and carrying computers etc and interviewing suspects in custody.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
SCAIDP training - Being a PIP 2 investigator with child protection experience will be an advantage but not pre-requisite to the role.
Being ABE trained is again an advantage but not a pre-requisite.
