The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

The Role

We are looking for applications from individuals who hold the relevant National Investigators Exam (NIE) and are either an experienced PIP 1 qualified Police Staff Investigators, or who hold relevant investigative experience.

This is part of the precept investment agreed this year where the force has committed to providing more investigators, with a focus on catching more criminals, increasing solved crimes, and preventing repeat offending.

We are anticipating there will be a number of PIP2 vacancies across Sussex, which included Crawley, Worthing and Chichester on West Sussex division Hollingbury on Brighton and Hove division Eastbourne and Hastings on East Sussex division So if you wish to develop your investigative career this is an excellent opportunity to do so.

This is a varied, challenging, and sometimes tough but ultimately rewarding. You will work as part of a team to investigate serious and complex crimes, deal with victims, offenders and witnesses.

A significant number of these cases will be heard at crown Court and will therefore be subject to rigorous scrutiny. Bringing such offenders to justice is both challenging and rewarding.

Skills & Experience

You should have demonstrable knowledge to PIP Level 1 or relevant investigative experience, with the potential to reach PIP Level 2.

Key offences in criminal law including all major offences against the person and against property Key offences in criminal procedure legislation, including the PACE and CPIA

The fundamental workings of the courts and the wider criminal justice system. The rules of best evidence, investigate interviewing of both witnesses and suspects, case file preparation and an awareness of forensics.

A proven all-round investigative ability. Possess an analytical mind, a methodical approach and have attention to detail. The ability to effectively and efficiently handle and interview victims, witnesses and suspects.

Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with people from all walks of life and communicate with them at a level proportionate with their understanding. The ability to work as part of a tight-knit team

The ability to work with other agencies and partners Have an aptitude towards information Technology and have the ability to be trained in a variety of both national and local systems and also be familiar with standard PC software. Have excellent communication skills both written and orally and to be able to deliver presentations. Once in post you will work towards becoming PIP2 accredited.
