The Surrey Police Criminal Justice Unit has an exciting opportunity to be a part the Police Led Prosecution team, we are seeking bright and enthusiastic individuals with legal and/or criminal justice experience to join us!
Police Led Prosecutors will conduct thorough evidential reviews of traffic case files, presenting these before the Magistrates’ Court on behalf of Surrey Police. They work closely with our partner agencies including the Crown Prosecution Service and HM Courts & Tribunals Service.
This role is based at Guildford Police Station. To support the Force’s commitment to provide an agile and flexible workforce, you will have the opportunity to flexibly work at home or away from your normal place of work some of the time where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities
Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including internal colleagues such as officers and staff in conjunction with Criminal Justice partner agencies namely Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and HM Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) and defence solicitors.
Conduct an evidential review of specified offence case files and Traffic Process Files and offer tailored feed-back to provide support to divisional officers in accordance with the Director’s Guidance 6th Edition.
Attend the PLP (Police Led Prosecution) Court in order to;
• Present case facts and guidance to HMCTS
• Manage defendants i.e. by presenting exceptional hardship cases and special reasons cases.
• Submit applications to vacate, and withdraw/offer no evidence for cases on behalf of the Force.
• Assist with legal arguments and the preparation for an effective trial hearing for CPS.
Deliver a high level of customer service to all internal and external users of the Criminal Justice (CJ) department. Negotiate and influence positive outcomes.
Maintain close liaisons with other members of the team, utilising excellent interpersonal skills and flexibility to assist colleagues with their own responsibilities and initiatives, as well as assisting with short-term improvements and/or ideas that will increase the overall performance of the department.
Be able to identify the potential impact of a problem and successfully minimise the risk and take ownership of the identified solutions.
To ensure data quality, maintain accurate records and databases in order to store and retrieve accurate and timely information as required.
Embrace and positively promote any changes to processes and legislation (national, regional and local) which contribute to the continuous improvement of working practices, policies and parameters within the changing demands of the criminal justice environment.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislative changes, attend training courses where required and cascade any learning or knowledge to relevant parties where appropriate.
Skills & Experience
3-years’ experience in a Criminal Justice environment
OR
Law degree
OR
Member of the Institute of Legal Executives (Level 4 Criminal Law)
An excellent communicator of both verbal and written material with the ability to present and explain matters in non-technical terms, sometimes in a challenging manner to all levels of different customer sets.
The ability to build and maintain strong relationships and influence outcomes by negotiation.
Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to think outside the box and provide innovative solutions.
Experience of being self-responsible for successful decision making and having awareness of the risks relating to a situation being handled, and the ability to know when to escalate a complex or challenging issues.
Ability to work unsupervised by managing own time/work effectively prioritising as needed.
Proven aptitude to handle several issues at once in order to manage conflicting priorities.
Attention to detail and accuracy, combined with the ability to work to strict timescales.
The ability to quickly adapt to and understand new concepts, while maintaining a flexible approach and positive attitude to change.
