The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.
The Role
An opportunity has arisen for a Police Enquiry Officer to join the West Sussex PEO team in the Front Office at Midhurst Police station, on a part time, 12 month secondment (to cover maternity leave).
This valuable role helps to support policing in a rural community and would suit an individual who does not wish to work full time hours or weekends.
Key Responsibilities
Your role as a Police Enquiry Officer will be diverse, but would include opening, closing and resourcing the front office / enquiry desk at Midhurst police station, and acting as primary point of contact for all visitors to the police station, receiving internal and external calls.
Key Responsibilities.
1) You will be required to carry out initial investigation of incidents including recording crime and collisions, initial interviews with victims and witnesses, providing relevant statements as necessary. Completing initial crime recording within STORM and NICHE.
2) You will be using STORM to monitor incidents requiring a grade 3 response you will liaise with NPT/NRT supervision to allocate incidents for further investigation. Grade 1 and 2 incidents will be risk assessed with questions sets if appropriate prior to passing to the radio for resourcing.
3) You will undertake the processing and checking of the production of driving documents produced in response to HORT/2 and TOR procedures. Investigate any possible offences and report persons for summons for driving document offences. You will also undertake the detailed checks for the release of vehicles that have been seized under sec 165 of the Road Traffic Act. And complete PG9/PG10 vehicle prohibition notices.
4) You will be required to undertake recording of specified lost and found property (Identifiable, high value, or property containing personal data), make enquiries to return the property to the rightful owner in a timely manner. You will also be preserving the continuity of evidence when handling seized property from NICHE property system.
5) You will be providing support to NPT/NRT staff and any other Police Staff with PNC/NICHE checks and property searches. You will be signing people onto the bail register, checking to ensure signees are complying with their conditions and providing evidential statements when the fail to sign. You will also be registering sex offenders and individuals subject to Stalking Prohibition Notices.
6) You are also required to undertake other duties appropriate to the grade including those of a lesser grade.
Skills & Experience
Applicants must have good interpersonal skills, be well organised, flexible, be able to work independently and possess excellent communication and computer skills.
Previous experience in a customer focused environment would be helpful, as well as, being able to work under their own initiative with limited supervision.
A working knowledge of Core/Smart Storm, Pronto Crash, Niche Property Database and Niche DOI is desirable but not essential as training will be provided. An understanding of the NDM model, Investigation Framework and THRIVE would also be advantageous.
You need to be flexible as the role requires you to work at MIDHURST police station , but may include supporting staff at Chichester, Bognor Regis or Littlehampton police stations as required.
