The Role
A new and exciting specialist opportunity has arisen within the Forensic Collision Investigation Base (FCIB) at Shoreham.
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, dedicated and highly motivated officer to join the Unit, reporting to the Base Senior Forensic Collision Investigator, as well as maintaining strong links with the Regional Technical Manager (RTM) within the Forensic Collision Investigation Network (FCIN).
The primary purpose of this role, is to assist the RTM, by facilitating the technical elements of ISO 17020 quality standards implementation and maintenance for Forensic Collision Investigation within their Base, and across the collaborated FCIU.
The role requires the successful candidate to work closely with representatives from the FCIN and at Base level, implementing national standard operating procedures, verifying nationally validated methods and equipment within the local environment, participating in audits, identifying non-conformances and assisting with implementing corrective actions, within the quality management system.
As an already competent Forensic Collision Investigation practitioner, you will be required to maintain currency and competence in the FCI role and will, therefore, at times, support colleagues in the attendance and reconstruction of incidents, and carry an investigative workload.
You will be expected to possess, or attain the relevant qualifications in order to be accredited to work within the accreditation scopes, as they expand.
Key Responsibilities
To provide support to the Senior FCI, and other colleagues, in the implementation and maintenance of the ISO Quality Standards, in particular when embedding the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) at FCIB and FCIU levels.
Work closely with the key roles within the FCIN, in particular the Regional Technical Manager, to assist with the activities required to achieve accreditation within the deadline.
Assist the FCIN staff with implementing the plan to verify all nationally validated techniques and equipment locally, utilising force resources to demonstrate effective application of Standard Operating Procedures and provide input into the verification report. Ensure, by participating in audits and the quality assurance process, that FCI’s adhere to the eQMS and associated procedures.
In conjunction with the FCIN Regional Technical Manager, investigate, manage and resolve non-conformities in line with FCIN policy.
Maintain a level of knowledge and understanding of International and National standards, providing professional advice to colleagues on ISO, UKAS, ILAC and FSR standards, regulations and associated requirements.
Participate in the review, maintenance and updating, of all related documentation, working practices and procedures, in order to ensure full compliance.
Keep up to date with technical developments within the field of Forensic Collision Investigation.
Skills & Experience
Demonstrable experience as a current and competent Forensic Collison Investigator.
Excellent written skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise and accurate reports.
A high degree of emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, so that the post holder is able to lead this vital work in a supportive and encouraging people-focused way.
The post holder must be able to communicate effectively with internal and external partners.
Experience in the implementation of, or at least a sound understanding of, the ISO Quality Standards are essential.
The post holder will identify opportunities for improvement, have a creative mind-set, as well as the ability to reflect and re-assess.
The ability to work without close supervision, to generate work and to effectively manage a challenging workload is essential.
You will be expected to possess, or attain the relevant qualifications in order to be accredited to work within the accreditation scopes as they expand.
