The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.
The Role
We have an exciting opportunity to join Sussex Police as a PIP2 Crime Investigator within the Criminal Investigation Department.
PIP 2 Investigators are responsible for investigating Serious and Complex Crime which involve High risk offenders and victims of crime in a variety of crime types.
Crime Investigators that are PIP2 will be required to work closely with Police Staff and Police Officer colleagues not only in CID, but across the Division to ensure that we provide the best possible service to victims of crimes. Delivery of our Force priorities is crucial - Catching Criminals, Protecting our Communities and Delivering an outstanding service.
We currently have vacancies on East Sussex Division which comprises of two locations. Hammonds Drive, Eastbourne and Bohemia Road, Hastings.
There is a change programme underway with the inception of a Volume Crime Team (RIT) the go live date for East Sussex is 24th April. The locations will not change, however, the start and finish hours will.
The role requires unsocial hours working which includes day, evening and weekend shifts.
A requirement of the role is that you MUST have successfully completed the NIE (National Investigators Exam) – the lifespan of this exam is 5 years.
Key Responsibilities
1. Investigators will be required to show competency against the PIP 2 Investigator NOS namely:
• Conduct serious an complex investigations
• Interview victims and witnesses in relation to serious and complex crime
• Interview suspects in relation to serious and complex crime
2. Prepare case files for our partners at the Crown prosecution Service in line with current Director General Guidelines
3. Manage a workload of investigations ensuring that Victims at all times are kept informed of progress
4. Work alongside your Divisional Colleagues to deliver of Force Priorities
5. Attend Court when required to do so either Magistrates of Crown Court
6. Be accountable to your supervisors for your performance
7. Complete Continuous Professional Development training days to ensure your knowledge and understanding is kept refreshed
8. Completing a PIP2 pathway for accreditation
Skills & Experience
* Prepare for and undertake formal investigative interviews of suspects under caution *Setting direction and investigating recorded crimes and incidents
* Preparing evidential files for court and liaising with the Crown Prosecution Service *Performing the role of Officer in the Case (OIC), in court hearings and trials
* Liaise and confer with other police forces, partners and support agencies
* Develop and foster new relationships with partner agencies and external service providers
* Represent Sussex Police at multi agency strategy discussions and case conferences *Ensure that victims and witnesses are updated with the progress of their investigation and are provided with any necessary support and protection.
* Undertake training for other specialist functions as required by the team e.g., Sexual Offences Liaison Officer(solo), Family Liaison officer (FLO) and ABE Interviewer. *Complete regular mandatory training, including the annual first aid and staff safety training.
* Complete relevant PIP level 1 and 2 training including PEACE model and disclosure. *Actively identify intelligence gathering opportunities
