The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.
The Role
This is a demanding role working within POLIT at Hailsham. The post will predominantly cover East Sussex and Brighton & Hove area.
Resilience is required due to early morning start times.
Key Responsibilities
Recording criminal offences in line with national rules and guidance.
To prepare for and undertake formal investigative interviews of suspects under caution, in compliance with the provisions of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, preparing and delivering relevant disclosure material during the process as necessary and required.
Interviewing and processing suspects in custody and conducting related investigative enquiries within Sussex and Surrey Police areas and outside where required.
Setting direction and investigating recorded crimes and incidents by gathering evidence within the agreed investigative timeframe, analysing and evaluating the information. Identifying and conducting further enquiries, taking statement and working outside of the custody centre / police station where necessary.
Preparing evidential files for court and liaising with the Crown Prosecution Service including the gathering and assessment of unused material in compliance with Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996.
Performing the role of Officer in the Case (OIC), in the court hearings and trials for appropriate PIP1 and PIP2 offences.
To liaise and confer with other police forces, partners and support agencies for cases that do not result in criminal justice outcomes.
To develop and foster new relationships with partner agencies and external service providers, negotiating and information exchange, disclosure, joint investigations and the provision of requested services.
To represent Sussex Police at multi agency strategy discussions and case conferences, contributing to safeguarding plans for vulnerable children and adults where appropriate.
To ensure that victims and witnesses are updated with the progress of the investigation and are provided with any necessary support and protection.
To undertake training for other specialist functions as required by the team e.g. Sexual Offences Liaison Officer(solo), Family Liaison officer (FLO) and ABE Interviewer.
To complete regular mandatory training, including the annual first aid and staff safety training. To complete relevant PIP level 1 and 2 training including PEACE model and disclosure.
To actively identify intelligence gathering opportunities, and to make accurate and timely submissions of intelligence via the Force Intelligence systems
In a professional and ethical manner execute any powers designated to police staff Crime Investigators PIP2.
Tutor new investigators into the department.
Undertaking other investigative duties as directed by Supervisors and Managers that are appropriate to the grade and character of the work including the specific duties of similar or lesser grade posts.
Skills & Experience
You will need to be an accredited PIP 2 Crime Investigator or have passed the NIE and still be valid. Recent investigative experience would be an advantage. Completion of the ICIDP course would be beneficial.
Applicants must be in possession of a current full UK Driving Licence. Note - successful applicants must be willing to undertake a driving assessment in order to be able to drive unidentifiable police vehicles.
