The Role

Do you think proactively, have a passion for investigation and want to shape an exciting new team within Sussex Police?

 

As part of Sussex Police’s precept and government funded uplift, an exciting opportunity has emerged for uniform positions within the Specialist Enforcement Unit (SEU) which has recently launched on the 4th January 2021. The SEU focuses on Force priorities, including acquisitive crime and killed or seriously injured collision (KSI) reduction strategies.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Carrying out effective targeted intelligence led patrols and enforcement activity in line with the control strategy.

• Working closely with internal and external investigation teams, wider partners, ANPR/casualty reduction and other Ops Command Units to tackle issues.

• Specialising in visible proactive work such as enforcement on the roads, with a focus on addressing identified intelligence gaps to tackle organised criminality.

• Understanding force priorities and take responsibility to deal with these in a proactive and innovative way. In return you will be trained to provide specialist skills including; advanced driving, tactical pursuit and containment (TPAC), Taser, method of entry (MOE), and a range of enforcement methods to support our mission of protecting communities, catching criminals and delivering an outstanding service.

 

Skills & Experience

• A proven track record of proactive policing ability

• Knowledge of intelligence models and proven submission rate of quality intelligence

• Investigative mind set

• Full working knowledge of Niche

• Experience of problem-solving and partnership working

• Ability to manage crime file workload and prosecution papers

• Ability to work with minimal supervision

• You should hold a minimum of a current standard response and initial pursuit permit OR have previously held such WITHIN the last 5 years.

• Due to the nature of this team, Category A (fully operational) officers are required for this unit, with current staff safety and first aid accreditation.

• Advanced driver / tactical pursuit and containment / method of entry / Taser / skills are desirable but training will be provided if you do not possess these skills.

If you have not previously held an advanced driving permit then a check drive as to your suitability for advanced training will be conducted by the Driver Training Unit as part of the selection process. This will take place on the 5th February so successful candidates must be available for check drive on this date.

The Specialist Enforcement Unit will be dedicated to proactive policing at a Force level, working with other units to deny criminals the use of the roads and support the force control strategy, specifically; organised acquisitive crime and the reduction of killed or seriously injured collisions on our roads through visible presence and enforcement. Targeting high risk high harm offenders thereby protecting the people of Sussex and those most vulnerable.

The team consists of:

• One Inspector

• 3 uniform Sgt’s managing 27 police officers

• Three of the 24 PC’s are Liaison Officers developing taskings for the unit

• Operational Dog handlers will be attached to each team

• One Detective Sgt managing 2 detective constables and 4 PC investigators

Teams will work a shift pattern based around core shifts of earlies & lates with an expectation of flexibility due to the nature of the role.

Additional Information

Please note that all expressions of interest must be agreed through your line manager prior to applying. To be eligible to apply officers must have completed their probationary period and must not be subject to any live misconduct investigations.

The role will carry a tenure of 2 years.
