The Role & Key Responsibilities
From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference.
In this role you will be supporting the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) in fulfilling her statutory duties in relation to working with strategic partnerships to increase safety in our communities. This involves addressing specific themes such as serious and organised crime, road safety and anti-social behaviour. You will support the Commissioner in her victim-focussed approach to anti-social behaviour, including supporting her role as the final arbiter for Anti-social Behaviour Case Reviews.
The role supports the Police and Crime Commissioner with her duty to co-operate with partners at a strategic level, including Surrey’s Community Safety Partnerships, the Health and Wellbeing Board, the Serious Organised Crime Partnership and the Community Safety Assembly, working collaboratively to develop priorities and implement plans. This includes building and developing a network of relationships and fostering effective partnerships to deliver the county-wide Community Safety Agreement.
You will work closely with other portfolio leads in the Commissioner’s Office, including the Serious Violence Programme Lead, as well as the Policy and Commissioning Leads for Criminal Justice and Victim Services.
You be will responsible for leading commissioning activity for the PCC’s Community Safety Fund and Children and Young People Fund, using the latter to support the Commissioner’s aspiration for children and young people to live safe and fulfilling lives. As line manager to the Partnerships and Community Safety Officer, you will give strategic direction to grant fund and oversee a wide range of projects, interventions and services to deliver the Commissioner’s Police and Crime Plan.
You will be responsible for advising the PCC and wider team on issues likely to be of media interest in relation to relevant policy area.
Skills & Experience
Providing advice to develop policy and strategy that ensures the Police and Crime Commissioner stays ahead of the field in delivering her statutory duties, specifically in relation to strategic partnerships and increasing safety in communities.
Work collaboratively with partners who also have responsibility for relevant policy areas, identifying emerging local needs and commissioning projects, services and interventions to ensure these are met.
Overseeing the management of the Community Safety Fund and Children and Young People Fund, including providing strategic commissioning direction and overseeing the effective management of grant applications and award of funding.
Line management of the Partnership and Community Safety Officer post.
Making bids to secure additional funding from central government and other sources that can increase the budget significantly (e.g. nearly £9million secured by the Commissioner’s Policy and Commissioning team since 2021/22) and managing the appropriate use of these funds.
Act as professional lead both internally and externally for strategic partnerships and increasing safety in communities, attending internal and external boards and representing the Head of Policy and Commissioning or Chief Executive when required.
Carry out research projects as required by the Police and Crime Commissioner, including project scoping, budget management, project planning to meet deadlines, consultation with public and partners and delivery.
Work with other policy officers in the region to share and develop best practice and collaborate on work as appropriate
Advise the Commissioner and wider team on issues and projects likely to be of media interest in relation relevant policy area.
Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade and character of work as may be reasonably required, including specific duties of a similar or lesser graded post.
