The Role

To support the provision of Occupational Health services within both Surrey & Sussex police.

To work from one or more of the following sites:
Reigate, Surrey Fire & Rescue HQ
Guildford, Surrey Police HQ
Horsham Police Station
Lewes, Sussex Police HQ

And to be able to work from these locations when required.

Key Responsibilities

In line with set protocols/procedures undertake Pre-employment/placement and Health surveillance medical tests:
• Spirometry / Lung function testing
• Audiometry / Hearing testing
• Vision screening
• Assess mobility (basic functional movement)
• Record medical and social history based on information received in the pre-employment form and verbally from client
• Recognise and report abnormal test results to senior level
• Record results to COHORT OH software
• Take part in mandatory and in-house training
• Any other medical screening/ test in line with Health & Safety/ police legislation


• Undertake screening of pre-employment medical questionnaires for staff & Officer roles
• Advise admin of those requiring face to face medicals in relation to role requirements • Refer individuals with medical conditions on paper screen to the designated OH Practitioner for onward management
• Complete required medical procedures as above in relation to roles
• Refer individuals requiring Adjustments at Work to the designated OH practitioner
• Complete ‘fit notes’ and refer individuals to the senior clinician as per Standard Operating Procedure
• Maintain records in line with the Data Protection Act and best practice guidelines
• Ensure client records are accurate and factual
• Maintain Client Confidentiality in line with Occupational Health Policy and best practice guidelines

Maintain an awareness of current legislation relating to Occupational Health Practice, e.g.
• Equality Act
• Health and Safety at work Act
• COSHH Regulations
• DSE Regulations
• DVLA Guidance Other legislation relevant to Policing
Hepatitis B programme Sussex/ Surrey – under supervision of senior clinician
• Assess an Identify the need for Hepatitis B immunisation from medical forms/ medical interview
• Give advice with regard to Hep B immunisation
• Undertake/maintain immunisation support skills training for Health Support Workers as per standard requirements including management of anaphylaxis and basic life support.
• Undertake/maintain phlebotomy skills training for Health Support Workers.
• Maintain accurate records for immunisation via COHORT software
• Maintain contemporaneous records for Vaccine stock control, usage & temperature control procedures
• Daily and periodic maintenance and calibration of clinical equipment
• Contemporaneous system of recording results of above
• Ordering through admin disposable supplies stock in line with standard operating procedures


•Take part in developing and delivering Health Promotion and Well-being campaigns within Sussex Police and Surrey Police and the Collaborated Service.


•Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade and character of work as may be reasonably required, including specific duties of a similar or lesser graded post.

Skills & Experience

ESSENTIAL
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimal: GCSE grade C or above, or equivalent in English, and Maths. OH Technician qualification or NVQ Level 2/3 in Health Care Current courses on
• Spirometry / Lung function testing
• Audiometry / Hearing testing
• Vision screening


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and EXPERIENCE
Effective communication skills, written, verbal and telephone.
Ability to understand and maintain client confidentiality and accurate record keeping. Ability to work independently, prioritise, manage workload and work to deadlines. Ability to assimilate and undertake technical tasks.
Ability to remain calm under pressure and achieve results. IT skills – conversant with Word, Excel etc.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability and willingness to travel to other sites within the organisation across Sussex and Surrey.

DESIRABLE

• Vision screening


Previous Occupational Health / Health care Experience. Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Underlying knowledge of the principles of Health promotion and well-being.
