The Role

As a MASH Officer working within the Police Single Point of Access (PSPA) you will manage and process internal and external referrals relating to Children and Vulnerable Adults. This will help facilitate the investigation of crime across the Public Protection disciplines and you will be expected to identify and respond to issues of need, harm and risk associated with individuals and families needing support.

Another key role will be the management and delivery of the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme (Clare’s Law) and the Child Sex Offender Disclosure Scheme (Sarah’s Law).

You will work in a busy environment and be part of a multi-agency team responsible for providing a high quality service to internal partners and external agencies.  This will include researching Police systems and providing proportionate and relevant information to partner agencies.  You will also be expected to provide advice and guidance to partner agencies, colleagues and key stakeholders in relation to our core functions.

Key Responsibilities

Together with partner agencies who work with children and vulnerable adults, you will monitor and respond to Child and Vulnerable Adult referrals, performing a series of triage processes and exchanging information, advice and guidance to identify levels of need, harm and risk and to enable the appropriate provision of support.

You will interrogate local and national computer systems in order to conduct research for evaluating and onward sharing with partner agencies.

Part of the role involves face to face interactions with potentially vulnerable persons with a view to supporting and providing them with information relating to Clare’s Law and Sarah’s Law applications, as directed by a Detective Sergeant. This might be in person or via video-link or telephone call as appropriate, and will be compliant with current COVID-19 restrictions.

Skills & Experience

We are seeking individuals who have highly effective communication skills, who are able to apply tact and understanding when discussing sensitive matters and who can work as part of a team but are also sufficiently motivated to work on their own.  The team are based at Quadrant Court in Woking but the role includes a significant amount of agile working. There will be times when you will not be required to work from Quadrant Court, and you will have the flexibility to work from another base station or even from home.  Again, we remain subject to COVID-19 restrictions and at the time of writing, all our MASH Officers are currently working from home, but this is expected to change when restrictions allow.

The role requires the ability to analyse problems and produce clear and accurate reports to assist with making sound decisions relating to the management of risk and assessment of need.

Successful candidates will also be required to represent Surrey Police in a professional manner whilst working together in partnership with other organisations within a multi-agency working environment.

It is desirable, although not essential, for the post holder to have an awareness of approved professional practices involved within Public Protection and Safeguarding disciplines as well as experience of working within a safeguarding environment. In addition to this the post holder must be able to use (or be willing to undertake training in the use of) a range of Surrey Police and other information sources and applications required to undertake the role.

Please note that in addition to the ‘agile working’ requirements of the role, there is also the expectation of being able to travel around the County on occasion to perform your duties when required.
