This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst continuing to be two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.

Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.

Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowance and hours.

The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

The Role

To provide efficient, cost effective and safe servicing, maintenance and repair of vehicles as directed by their line manager. To undertake specialist modifications and installation as required. To provide support for major incident and operations. Specialising in Motorcycles and/or Vehicles. Based at our Stonebridge Depot Bramley Guildford Surrey GU5 0BJ  

Key Responsibilities

  1. To service, repair and maintain JTS fleet and external agencies vehicles and associated specialist equipment as directed by line management.
  2. To deal with unplanned or emergency work as necessary, including remote vehicle breakdowns and repairs.
  3. To commission and decommission vehicles, including the installation and removal of specialist Police enforcement equipment.
  4. To attend force training courses as appropriate to role (NCALT etc).
  5. To operate and store workshop equipment in a safe and professional manner, with due consideration to H&S requirements (supported by training).
  6. To maintain records and complete paperwork in a timely manner as directed by line management.
  7. To ensure personal skills are maintained appropriate to role. To include technical and personal development objective based skills as identified in focus meetings.
  8. To ensure they have sufficient hand tools to carry out their duties.
  9. To ensure understanding and compliance of applicable COSHH regs.
  10. To undertake all such other duties to the grade and character of work as may be required, including the specific duties of similar work or lesser graded posts.

Skills & Experience

To be successful you must have completed a recognized Motor Vehicle Apprenticeship; possess City & Guilds, or equivalent Vehicle Technician Certificate or NVQs level 2 and 3/Standards and be able to evidence experience of maintaining modern cars. Please list all relevant. You must also have a full driving license for cars as a minimum.
