The Office of the Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner (OSPCC) is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic individual to run its Independent Custody Visiting Scheme and co-ordinate the activities of its volunteers. The management of an effective Scheme is a statutory function of the Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner (PCC).
The purpose of this role is to maintain the quality of Independent Custody Visiting and continue the development of the Scheme. You will manage around 50 volunteers on behalf of the PCC and have responsibility for their recruitment, training, ongoing support and evaluation, as well as managing their relationship with those they come into contact with at Sussex Police.

Skills & Experience
Applicants will be able to demonstrate:
• Proven experience of working with volunteers, with demonstrable management and motivational skills within the public sector or equivalent organisation;
• The ability to use tact, initiative and independent judgment whilst remaining calm in difficult situations;
• Outstanding communication (written and oral), interpersonal and listening skills;
• Proactive, self-disciplined approach to tasks with the ability to work in a busy environment and manage workload. Although this is a part-time post, there is an expectation that the post-holder will attend at least 10 evening meetings a year;
• The post holder will be required to hold a full UK driving licence, have access to a vehicle and be prepared to use it for work-related travel; and
• Experienced user of all Microsoft Office applications.
