The Role & Key Responsibilities
This is an exciting opportunity to lead strategic partnership working in support of the role and responsibilities of the Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner.
The Office of the Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner has a national reputation for developing and delivering innovative projects with a range of partners to tackle and reduce crime.
As Head of Partnerships, you will be responsible for leading an experienced team to build trusted and effective working relationships with a wide variety of policing, community safety and criminal justice partners at a local and national level. You will ensure that there is an effective partnership working strategy to support the objectives of the Commissioner’s Police and Crime Plan. In doing so you will be working in collaboration with the Sussex Community Safety Partnerships, Youth Justice, and Combating Drugs Partnerships, ensuring through the allocation of the PCCs delegated budget that the work of these partnerships best supports the Police and Crime Plan objectives.
In conjunction with police and partners, you will be responsible for delivering the Commissioners commitment to deliver Restorative Justice across Sussex, as well as provide the strategic engagement and delivery of the Sussex Violence Reduction Partnership, to drive down violent crime. You will also lead on the Commissioners priority to prevent and tackle Retail and Business Crime at a local and national level and ensure all budget contributions towards partnership and community safety are effectively monitored. . An important aspect of the role will be to prepare bids for grants made available by Government to reduce crime and prevent offending, and then project manage the startup of the initiatives to ensure successful outcomes are achieved.
They key responsibilities of the role are:
- To develop, lead and manage the development of partnerships and associated grants on behalf of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
- To deliver the Police and Crime Commissioner’s statutory functions in respect of partnership working at the local, regional, and national level.
- To lead, develop and manage policies and procedures regarding the statutory duties of the Police and Crime Commissioner in relation to Serious Violence Duties, Anti-Social Behaviour and Community Safety Partnerships.
- To negotiate, influence and identify partnership working and collaboration at the local, regional and national government level, as well as with statutory and non statutory providers.
- To represent the Police and Crime Commissioner in all relevant national and local forums, including with the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners, Home Office, Ministry of Justice, Department of Housing and Levelling Up and National Police Chiefs Council.
- To attend where necessary and present at local, regional, and national events on behalf of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
Skills & Experience
Educated to degree level or equivalent by experience.
Hold project management qualification/s.
Extensive experience of delivering and managing partnerships at a senior/executive level.
Extensive experience of working within community safety and criminal justice partnerships
Extensive experience of managing budgets and ideally possess some commissioning experience.
Possess excellent negotiating and influencing skills at a senior/executive level.
Possess excellent oral and written communication skills, a high level of political awareness and tact and diplomacy.
Possess excellent problem solving, decision making and organisational skills,
Ability to analyse, understand and interpret complex information.
