Division / Department - Estates and Facilities Management Grade - Grade C Status - Full Time Contract Type - Permanent Salary Grade Range - £18,202 - £21,101 Working Hours - 36.0 Hours per Week The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.
The Role
To maintain safe and effective buildings and working environments to assist administrative and operational staff to meet their responsibilities in promoting a quality police service.
Key Responsibilities
2.1 To manage and undertake regular building and grounds maintenance duties on the division, including secure areas, as required in order to maintain a safe working environment.
2.2 Routinely check fixtures and fittings and to either make good or escalate faults found.
2.3 To meet and manage contractors on police sites and ensure that all health and safety and security measures are observed.
2.4 To conduct inspections of all police buildings including section houses to ensure hygiene, equipment and general state of repair meet Health & Safety requirements and report to Premises Management Officers.
2.5 To assist where directed in monitoring the performance of the outsourced cleaning contract.
2.6 General cleaning outside of the cleaning contracts including secure areas, car parks, garages, flat roofs, gutters and drains, dog kennels, entrances and pathways and, when appropriate, clearing snow and salting to maintain access and usage.
2.7 To provide general janitoring and porterage duties for deliveries and the removal of furniture and equipment.
2.8 To collect and drop cars to the Force Garage/outside agencies for repair and maintenance as and when required.
2.9 To perform any other duties as designated from time to time, consistent with the grade and nature of this post.
Skills & Experience
3.1 Is in possession of a current full driving licence and has the ability to pass the tests to drive any relevant types of police vehicles including personnel carriers.
3.2 Must be well organised, a good time manager, have the initiative to undertake the various duties and responsibilities of the position and deal promptly with any issues arising without reference to supervisors unless considered necessary.
3.3 Has good verbal and communication skills, to communicate clearly and concisely with staff and representatives of contractors and to report accurately on maintenance and servicing issues. Take readings of meters as required.
3.4 Has previous experience in undertaking minor repairs and servicing of buildings.
3.5 To have the ability to undertake training and become competent in the routine operation and maintenance of boiler, heating and other systems in use within the police buildings for which they are responsible.
3.6 To work effectively as a member of a team.
3.7 Has a basic knowledge of use of computer.
It is desirable that the postholder:
3.8 Has a qualification in one or more of the building or grounds maintenance faculties and Health & Safety.
Additional Requirements
4.1 Whilst the role is based at HQ, the post holder may be required to start work from any building site within the Surrey Police area
4.2 The post holder may be required to be inoculated against Hepatitis B where there is the likelihood of having to work within any area of police buildings in the course of caretaking duties which may have been visited by persons who may have, or be carriers of, this infectious disease.
4.3 The post holder will be available for on-call duties for out of hours maintenance emergencies at least once a week covering the Force area.
