This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst continuing to be two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.
Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.
Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowance and hours.

The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.
The Role
To design, develop, co-ordinate and deliver firearms related command training, including initial courses, mandated refresher training and reaccreditation training programmes; at strategic, all tactical, operational command levels and for Firearms Tactical Advisors.
To design, develop, co-ordinate and deliver command training, including initial courses and refresher training at strategic (Gold) and tactical (CIM Critical Incident Manager) levels.
To design, develop, co-ordinate and deliver Post Incident Management training including initial, refresher and reaccreditation training.
To support delivery of other Command related training where your specialist knowledge and skills compliment the training and its assessment.
To design and develop the National Police Firearms Training Curriculum content relevant for delivery to those that develop or manage the development of intelligence.
To ensure such training provision is compliant with the CoP NPFTC guidelines and the APP AP.
To maintain accurate training records for all staff trained and when required produce reports for the management team.
To support a Post Incident Procedure in the event of a police shooting or other critical incident subject of potential investigation by or for an independent investigative authority.
Key Responsibilities
In respect to the programmes listed below you will design, develop, co-ordinate and where required deliver Armed Policing or Command related training events, resources and learning support materials including production of course manuals and files where relevant and assessing candidates ensuring such training provision is in compliance with the CoP National Police Firearms Training Curriculum and the relevant APP.
Armed Policing or Command related training, including initial courses, refresher training and reaccreditation training programmes at:
• Strategic (SFC, SSFC & Gold)
• All tactical (ITFC, CTFC, STFC & CIM)
• Operational Command levels (OFC) and for;
• Firearms Tactical Advisors.
Command training, including initial courses and refresher training at strategic (Gold) and tactical (CIM Critical Incident Manager) levels.
Post Incident Management training including initial, refresher and reaccreditation training.
Support delivery of other Command related training where your specialist knowledge and skills compliment the training and its assessment.
National Police Firearms Training Curriculum content relevant for delivery to those that develop or manage the development of intelligence.
You will design, develop, co-ordinate, deliver and assess the required teaching elements of Firearms Instructor courses and Command Trainers courses, including the relevant assessment process, subject to your qualifications
Ensure courses and training events are resourced and delivered efficiently, effectively and by appropriate approved, or occupationally and operationally competent Command Course Training Leads or Command Trainers where relevant as detailed within CoP NPFTC Modules.
You will evaluate course and training delivery to level 3 transference into the workplace, providing the management team with reports where required.
You will quality assure that designed training matches current operational practice and maintain compliance with the National Police Firearms Training Curriculum and force policy where relevant.
You will maintain and update training records to provide management information and to monitor that Firearms Commanders and Advisors maintain their Operational Competence.
You will facilitate standardisation meetings for all formal summative assessment elements of programmes ensuring that all relevant agendas and records are maintained.
you will perform a de-briefing role for staff involved in Firearms or critical incidents on request and provide written reports, with recommendations and observations to the management team thereby ensuring that organisational learning can be captured.
You will review Firearms Policy Files or records of deployments, providing feedback to individual staff where necessary and ensuring that organisational learning is captured and distributed as necessary.
You will carry out Risk Assessments associated with the training being delivered or its venue and nature.
You will undertake other duties appropriate to the grade and character of work as may be reasonably required, including specific duties of a similar or lesser graded post.
Skills & Experience
Training Qualification to level 3 (Award in Education & Training or equivalent)
To have been operationally competent in one or more of the following roles Tactical Firearms Commander (Cadre) or Strategic Firearms Commander (Gold).
Trained to conduct relevant risk assessments.
Evidence of having excellent interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues and customers at all levels of the organisation up to Chief Officer and good corporate awareness.
Evidence of excellent skills in planning and organising on an individual and team level.
Ability to plan and manage own workloads without supervision.
Resilient, with the ability to challenge issues and to see them through to resolution.
IT literate, including use of MS Window based Outlook and Office applications of Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

This vacancy will be based from an office at Gatwick Police Base with training delivery from any suitable police estate or hired premises within the counties of Surrey, East Sussex and West Sussex, thus driving between locations will be a frequent feature of your role. Training administration and planning activities may be completed from a home environment or Police Station near to your home.
