Vacancy Information

Do you have a few hours to spare each week to help our Forensic Investigations Department?

We are looking for volunteers to join us to help deliver our fingerprinting service to members of the public living in Surrey. Members of the public may be asked to provide police-certified sets of fingerprints for various reasons including UK visa applications, Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks, or clearance for roles within the UK if they have lived and/or worked abroad.

No previous experience is necessary as we will provide the training you need for this voluntary role.

The Role

As a Fingerprint Services Volunteer, you will be responsible for coordinating and undertaking appointments with members of the public at our HQ site just outside of Guildford.

The appointments can be arranged in accordance with your availability between the hours of Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:00 and members of our Forensic Investigations Department will always be on hand to assist with appointments if required.

Key Responsibilities

As a Fingerprint Services Volunteer, you will arrange appointments and meet members of the public when they arrive at HQ. Once you have confirmed their identity and established their requirements, you will then take their fingerprints using ink in accordance with your training.

At the end of the appointment, you will give the member of the public the set(s) of prints and take the relevant payment (if the fee has not been pre-paid). You will then need to document attendance and payments for the appointment.

Skills & Experience

We are looking for volunteers who can confidently engage with members of the public and are comfortable with physical contact. We have specific standards for the fingerprint sets which must be met, so you will need good attention to detail.

You will need to be able to plan and coordinate appointments and complete the relevant documentation, so good organisational and administration skills are both essential for this role.

No previous experience of taking fingerprints is required, as full training will be provided.
