The Role
An opportunity has arisen in the Economic Crime Unit as a Financial Investigator.
The vacancies for this role are within Sussex Police, so you will be based at Horsham and/or Brighton.
Division / Department – Surrey and Sussex Police Specialist Crime Command, Economic Crime Unit.

The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range. The successful candidate when suitably trained as part of the team will take part in overnight on call responsibilities.
You will work in our Economic Crime Unit (ECU) and report to a Financial Investigation Manager or Detective Sergeant.
You will be supporting force-wide and divisional investigations as a specialist resource.
You will use the Proceeds of Crime Act powers to recover criminal assets through a range of means to disrupt their activity.
You will be a point of reference for officers, and also referring specific cases to the ECU and making enquiries with financial institutions.
You will provide expert evidence at court and link in with other financial institutions.
Key Responsibilities
You will take the lead in financial investigations, in particular 'criminal lifestyle' offences.
You will investigate offences and pursue opportunities where confiscation, forfeiture and restraint of assets are suitable.
You will engage in every stage of the court procedure as an expert witness. You will develop financial profiles on subjects utilising a variety of sources.
Work with external stakeholders such as HM Revenue and Customs, Department of Work and Pensions, Trading Standards and the National Crime Agency.
You will be a point of contact and support for colleagues conducting investigations with a financial element.
You will undertake on-call duties to provide Financial Intelligence.
You will support development and understanding by delivering financial investigation training.

Fully NCA accredited financial investigator
Partially NCA accredited financial investigator
NCA accredited financial intelligence officer
Essential Skills and Experience
Previous investigative experience, you will be able to evidence your experience of leading investigations, and directing investigations. Ideally in relation to financial offences.
Demonstrate that you are able to produce clear, concise and accurate reports suitable for court, and present them at court as required.
Knowledge on current legislation, Proceeds of Crime Act., Police and Criminal Evidence Act, National Intelligence Model, Management of Police Information, Criminal Procedure Rules and Human Rights Act.
Show that you will have good organisational skills with an ability to work under pressure and prioritise a demanding workload.
You will need to be proficient/qualified in the use of Excel, Word and Microsoft Office. You must have a full UK manual driving licence and be willing to travel, dependent on operational needs.
You will also need your own vehicle, insured for business purposes and to use it if required.
