Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA)

The Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) is one of the new entry route for Police Constables.

A three-year apprenticeship programme, you will be employed as an officer from day one, gaining valuable experience of the role alongside studying towards a Degree in Professional Policing Practice. Study will be a mix of on and off the job and you will be awarded your degree at the end of the three year programme and with completion of your probation period. You will be paid a full salary of £21,402 per annum plus £2,500 South East Allowance and will not be charged any tuition fees – therefore no need for student loans

Eligibility

To apply you must:

  • be aged 17 years or over (18 by appointment)
  • have lived in the UK for 3 continuous years immediately prior to application
  • be a British citizen, a citizen of a country that is a member of the European Economic Area or Switzerland, or a Commonwealth citizen or foreign national who is resident in the UK and free from restrictions
  • have a current full UK manual driving licence, by the time of appointment
  • not have more than six penalty points
  • Not be registered bankrupt (or have bankruptcy debts that have been discharged within the past three years)
  • not be a current or previous member of a proscribed terrorist organization or group

 

  • have achieved GCSE/Level 2 functional skills in both Maths and English (A*-C/9-4) or educational equivalent. 
  • have achieved two A Levels or Level 3 equivalent, with a minimum overall of 48 UCAS points:
  • One A level (A* - C) AND
  • One A level (A* – E) or AS level in a different subject
  • Applicants can also hold a Level 3 BTEC as long as this qualification, or combination of qualifications meets the minimum 48 UCAS Tariff Points.

  • applicants without a Level 3 qualification can be considered if they are a current serving (or have left within the last 18 months, having completed 18 months' service) as a Special Constable or PCSO with Independent Patrol with any police force
  • We will also accept Investigating Officers, PIP Investigators, Contact Officer or Controllers who have completed 18 months service (or have left within the last 18 months, having completed 18 months' service)
  • Experience in other operational policing roles, armed forces or similar law enforcement agencies can be considered on a case by case basis for candidates who have served a minimum of 2 years service within the last 6 years and have exemplary references
