The Role
To deliver the Equality Diversity & Inclusion strategy, a multi skilled role positive action events, staff networks community etc. preparing reports and evidence for Stonewall etc.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver the Equality, Diversity & Human Rights strategy for Surrey Police under the guidance of the Surrey Police Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Advisor
Organise and attend internal and external events to promote the EDHR Strategy
Liaise closely with the Sussex Police Equality & Diversity Officers to ensure minimal duplication of work across Surrey Police & Sussex Police. Sharing information, lessons learned and resources where appropriate.
To provide support to the organisation in relation to the Force EDHR strategy triaging and escalating queries where appropriate.
Day to day liaison with the Staff Networks, providing updates to the EDI Advisor and Lead
Monitoring print and social media activity to promote the Force EDHR Strategy. Identifying opportunities to improve links with the internal and external communities.
Network to share effective practice and identify opportunities to work collectively to progress equality issues both in the workplace and where related to policing in communities.
Provide 121 and group facilitation support to positive action candidates in relation to recruitment and progression
Promote opportunities in policing to underrepresented communities through engaging events, communications and workshops
Skills & Experience
Essential
A Level qualification or relevant experience
Working knowledge of the Equality Act 2010 and Public Sector Equality Duty, 2011.
Working understanding of issues experienced by people who identify with a protected characteristic, outlined in the Equality Act 2010.
Experience in engaging directly with diverse communities and individuals and providing a high level of customer service.
Experience in planning, organising and delivering conferences and events.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
Proven experience ability to negotiate and influence others.
Proven experience of successful partnership working.
Ability to write reports up to Senior Management level.
Knowledge of other agencies (both statutory and non- statutory) that are involved in EDHR related work.
Ability to develop mutual trust and confidence with key internal and external stakeholders.
·Good working knowledge of IT systems, in particular the Microsoft package
Willingness to travel regionally and Nationally on a regular basis.
Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required by the organisation.
Desirable
Degree Level qualification.
CIPD membership
Expert knowledge in equality, diversity and human rights.
Previous experience of working in an Equality and Diversity team, and driving forward organisational diversity initiatives.
