This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst continuing to be two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.
Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.
Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowance and hours.

The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.
The Role
This role is being advertised as a 1 year fixed term contract to cover maternity leave. Internal secondments will also be considered.
Assist in the development of the Force’s Contingency and Emergency plans to allow Surrey & Sussex Police to respond effectively to major incidents and ensure compliance of the statutory duty under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.
Act as contact and liaison with other partner agencies in order to provide an effective multi-agency response to any situation; Providing a coordination function on a number of Local Resilience Forum (LRF) working groups and attending meetings as required.
To maintain and administer the emergency planning pages of the operations command intranet site and SharePoint libraries, ensuring key staff have access to all relevant documents to deal with major/complex incidents or civil Emergencies.
To act as an emergency planning tactical advisor on Major Incident procedures and protocols to Force Command Officers responding to major incidents within the force area and provide support and assistance to all divisions / BCU’s as necessary in the event of large or protracted incidents.
Assist in managing and maintaining the Force’s Casualty Bureau function.
Work within the LRF to identify, plan and deliver any Emergency / Major Incident exercises required in the force and LRF area.
Assist in preparing, planning and when required, facilitate the set-up of a Tactical Coordinating Centre (TCC) or Strategic Coordinating Centre (SCC).
To undertake such other duties appropriate to the grade and character of work as may reasonably be required; including the specific duties of a similar or lower graded post.
This is a full time post, core hours are 08:00 – 16:00 with occasional evening and weekend work as required.
The post holder will be required to carry out on call duties as part of the Emergency Planning on call rota, this attracts an additional on call allowance.
Key Responsibilities
Day to day responsibilities will include
• Liaising with the Sussex Resilience Forum (SRF) and partner agencies to plan for, train, exercise and respond to major incidents in a multi agency context
• Working with internal stakeholders to ensure that police contingency plans are reviewed on schedule and communicated appropriately
• Managing the Emergency Planning inbox and responding to queries and questions on a daily basis
• Assist in the management of the Casualty Bureau function
• Being part of a 24/7 on call rota to support Sussex Police and the wider SRF in responding to multi agency and Major Incidents
Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the Civil Contingencies act and experience working with partner agencies.
A working knowledge of Microsoft Office is required for this post.
A full driving licence is required for the post.
The successful candidate will be subject to Force vetting procedures.
