The Role

This Digital Producer role is crucial in helping us to communicate our work. You’ll support the co-ordination and delivery of the digital elements of our communications work, ensuring that we achieve key objectives throughout the year. This is a technical role and predominantly focuses on content production, however it also provides maintenance, development, and support of the Force’s digital communications channels, as well as the introduction of new channels and platforms, so a natural interest, and usage of social media and content management systems, is important.

We’re passionate about upskilling others across the department so the role holder will provide advice and support to colleagues on maximising the use of these channels, as well as any associated technical implications and limitations; working closely with other members of the department to create and publish approved content.

The role holder will also play a key part in the design and production of offline materials such as posters, leaflets and other marketing collateral as required, in line with the Force’s brand and corporate identity guidelines.

We know that, for many people, video is an easy way to digest information quickly whilst on the move. This role will suit someone who has experience of shooting video and editing it into something beautiful but effective. We use Adobe Premiere Pro, coupled with the rest of the Creative Cloud but we realise it’s not really about what software package you use – it’s about having the eyes to see what works and what doesn’t work that counts. We’re also looking for a problem solving approach, can-do attitude and the technical knowledge to implement ideas.

Key Responsibilities

This role is responsible for:
*Designing and producing content for online and offline channels supporting Surrey Police’s effective communication to members of the public.
*Providing technical advice and support to the department and wider business, developing existing and new online channels.

*Taking a lead in developing and improving Surrey Police’s digital communication channel presence to help meet Force priorities, in line with industry best practice and individual research.
*Acting as the primary point of contact for all technical online communication enquiries to enable the business to use these media effectively as part of their communication plans and activities.
*Providing support and training to officers, staff and other users of digital channels, ensuring they understand the functionality and are able to use the channels effectively.
*Publishing and distributing digital communications content in line with communication plans created by other members of the Corporate Communications department, or as directed by the Digital Communications Manager, ensuring content is delivered to the standards, brief and deadlines agreed.
*Assisting in managing and maintaining the online assets library to ensure it is up-to-date and online channels conform to agreed branding.
*Administering and managing rights to digital channels in order to maintain security and ensure the correct individuals have access as required.
*During periods of extreme or unusual activity provide an out of hours service for urgent requirements.

Skills & Experience

It is essential that the post holder has:
*Experience of working in a corporate communications team.
*Experience of publishing materials using a range of digital channels.
*Clear written and verbal communications skills.
*Excellent IT and advanced technical skills including image retouching and manipulation, video production, web editing (including Content Management Systems), HTML, graphic design.
*The ability to understand communications issues, risks and challenges.
*A good understanding of the range of digital communications channels available and their advantages and disadvantages.
*A keen personal interest in digital communication and its future developments.
*Organisational skills and the ability to manage a varying workload with varying deadlines.
*Experience of producing excellent, consistent results to specification with limited supervision.
*Ability to build and maintain cross-functional working relationships within the department and the wider organisation.
