Division / Department - Media and Communications Grade - Grade G Status - Full Time Contract Type - Permanent Salary Grade Range - £30,486 - £36,026 Working Hours - 36.0 Hours per Week Shift Allowance - Politically Restricted - The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.
The Role
This role is a specialist role delivering communications in a visually creative way that will help to capture the audience’s attention - specifically using graphics, layout, and animation.
The post holder will support the co-ordination and delivery of the digital elements of the department’s communications work, ensuring that we achieve key objectives throughout the year.
The primary responsibilities of the team is in design and production whether through graphic design, photography, animation or videography. The individual needs to be able to see the objective and turn concept into collateral, in line with the Force’s brand and corporate identity guidelines.
This is a technical role and although predominantly focuses on content production, the individual provides maintenance, development, and support of the Force’s digital communications channels, as well as the introduction of new channels and platforms, so a natural interest, and usage of social media and content management systems, is important.
The role holder is expected to be omni-competent across the creative landscape. Individuals may have a particular specialism or skillset (in this case graphics, layout, and animation) and therefore their primary focus will be in this area; however, they will be expected to flex between the skillsets as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Produce digital and offline assets and products in line with specifications provided, in order to enhance messaging to the target audience.
Contribute towards developing and improving Surrey Police’s digital communication channel presence to help meet Force priorities, in line with industry best practice and individual research.
Act as a point of contact for all technical online communication enquiries to enable the business to use these media effectively as part of their communication plans and activities.
Provide support and training to officers, staff and other users of digital channels, ensuring they understand the functionality and are able to use the channels effectively.
Publish and distribute digital communications content in line with communication plans created by other members of the Corporate Communications department, or as directed by the Production Manager, ensuring content is delivered to the standards, brief and deadlines agreed.
Assist in managing and maintaining the online assets library to ensure it is up-to-date and online channels conform to agreed branding.
Administer and manage rights to digital channels in order to maintain security and ensure the correct individuals have access as required.
During periods of extreme or unusual activity provide an out of hours service for urgent requirements.
Have excellent customer service skills with the ability to deliver multiple concepts to a working brief that can be pitched confidently to the internal client within working deadlines.
Develop an omni-competent skillset across the creative landscape (notably VIDEO / GRAPHIC DESIGN / PHOTOGRAPHY / ANIMATION / UX) – Producers will excel in a particular skillset, but will be expected to be competent across the production skillset.
Undertake such other duties appropriate to the grade and character of work as may reasonably be required, including the specific duties of similar or lesser graded posts.
Skills & Experience
Essential
Degree and/or equivalent relevant experience in creative design, multimedia production or similar.
Strong working knowledge of relevant Adobe Creative Cloud applications including Photoshop, InDesign and Premiere Pro Evidence of creative multimedia packages in the work environment in at least two of the following production disciplines– video, photo, motion graphic, graphic design.
Good knowledge of digital channel technical specifications including CMS and key social media channels e.g. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube.
Evidence of delivering end-to-end creative production process from interpretation of briefs, through to concept creation, revision and production to customer requirements, in support of an on or offline campaign.
Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure with strong attention to detail and time management.
A keen personal interest in digital communication and its future developments Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
This role requires travel to meetings and locations across Surrey and Sussex, sometimes at short notice. The post-holder must therefore have the ability to travel to these locations when required to do so.
Where transport involves the use of police vehicles, you must have a full driving licence and the ability to attain a Force Police Driving Permit.
The postholder will be required to pass and maintain Surrey Police Vetting at the appropriate level, this may include enhanced vetting.
