The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.
The Role
Following ISO17025 standard operating procedures, you will be responsible for the imaging of HDD, USB, SSD and any other form of stored media in preparation for analysis by the Digital Forensic Analyst. More in depth details regarding the role can be found under Key Responsibilities and on the Job Description attached.
Key Responsibilities
This includes the initial triage under the guidance of the analyst. Setup, assist and manage the viewing of data with officers/staff. Processing data from outsourcing providers and ingression of Sussex Police data onto the storage server. To be responsible for, manage and facilitate the correct handling of exhibits to maintain continuity and integrity and to ensure that all movements and examination of these items is evidentially sound and fully recorded on appropriate systems for audit purposes. To ensure that all actions are recorded, retained for audit and disclosed according to policy, procedures, relevant standards (including ISO 17025 accreditation) and legislation. To be responsible for maintaining an asset register for all Central DFT equipment and notify supervisors of any changes to the asset register. Undertake the day to day routine maintenance of equipment and arrange maintenance to take place.
Skills & Experience
▫ Good standard of secondary education (GCSEs A-C grade / or equivalent) including Maths and English; or equivalent by recent, relevant experience.
▫ To be IT literate with experience of using a wide variety of computer software applications.
▫ An understanding of digital imaging techniques (including the extraction of data).
▫ Awareness of exhibit handling procedures (especially continuity and integrity).
▫ Willingness to learn specific forensic computer software applications.
▫ Able to demonstrate an aptitude and willingness for continuous learning and professional development.
▫ Self motivated and proven experience of working methodically and patiently, often to deadlines, with minimal supervision.
▫ Strong attention to detail.
▫ Able to evidence excellent written and verbal communication skills (including report writing).
▫ Able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and time management, together with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels (and at Court) and to be a team player within a close working environment. Ability to highlight issues / concerns to DFT managers about outcomes in an appropriate manner.
▫ Proven ability of managing high workloads often with conflicting priorities. Good organisational skills.
▫ Able to demonstrate problem solving skills (including analysis and interpretation).
▫ Capable of absolute discretion when dealing with casework of a highly sensitive and confidential nature.
