Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.


Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowance and hours.

The Digital Forensic Team are expanding to meet the demands of modern policing. We are looking for individuals with experience or a keen interest in carrying out mobile phone examinations who would like to develop their skills further and be involved to continue shaping a new team.

Experience of working in a Digital Forensics environment is essential.

This is an opportunity for you to work and develop your passion and interest – to become a specialist. There is a real variety of work and because of this you will be constantly learning in an ever changing world of technology and stretching the scope of what is possible.
This role will be quite different to working in the commercial world as the emphasis is on helping us to put away criminals rather than just being driven by target numbers. You will have the space to focus on getting the right outcomes for victims of crime.

There are a number of vacancies located at Haywards Heath Sussex.

The opening hours of 0800-2000 Monday – Friday and 0800-1600 Saturday and Sunday. You will be required to work a fixed shift pattern with a mixture of early and lates and some weekends.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Forensic Examiners will provide support to frontline officers completing mobile examinations at XRY kiosks as well as carrying out enhanced examinations. Working in the DFT gives you the scope to become a highly skilled expert in digital technology that makes all the difference to front line policing.


You will be required to forensically examine mobile devices independently in line with standard operating procedures, forming examination plans and manage multiple examination requests within your self-managed caseload.

You will be required to use technical knowledge and specialist software applications to provide solutions to customer requirements.

You will be required to support the delivery of training in the use of self-service kiosk technologies and ensure that the software updates, audits and user profiles are maintained.

Skills & Experience

Experience:

Its is essential for candidates to demonstrate experience of working within a Digital Forensics environment.

Qualifications:

It is essential for the candidate to have a good standard of education with proven numeracy, literacy and IT skills or previous experience in digital forensics or law enforcement. It would be desirable for candidates to be educated to degree level in the field of digital forensics.

Knowledge, skills & experience:

•Excellent interpersonal skills particularly the ability to effectively engage with customers using negotiating and influencing techniques.

•An understanding of digital forensics including the application and implications of ISO 17025 and the Forensic Science Regulator’s Codes of Practice and Conduct.

•Evidence of working independently within an investigative / analytical environment.

•Problem solver in a fast paced, dynamic environment.

•Ability to learn to use specific digital forensic software applications. An aptitude for continuous learning and professional development.

•Self-motivated and proven experience of working methodically to deadlines, with minimal supervision.

•Strong attention to detail.

•Able to evidence excellent written and verbal communication skills (including report writing).

•Proven ability of managing high workloads often with conflicting priorities

•Able to demonstrate problem solving skills through inquisition and questioning.

•Be understanding of the customer needs with the ability to challenge where appropriate.

•Capable of absolute discretion when dealing with casework of a highly sensitive and confidential nature.

The role is a linked grade, progression from grade 9 to grade 10 is dependent on satisfactory completion of a training programme.
