Initial appointment will be Grade G with a competency gateway to Grade H

We are looking to fill a vacancy for Forensic Computer Analyst currently based at Guildford HQ, Mount Browne.

Do you want to be an integral member of a specialist unit that supports all levels of criminal investigations within Surrey and Sussex?

The Digital Forensics Team is responsible for the forensic recovery and analysis of data from computers and mobile phones seized during all investigations. We also provide support to all staff with advice regarding internet crime and relevant exhibit seizure.
You will need to be IT literate, ideally with previous significant experience in a computer related or law enforcement background or possess academic achievements related to the role.

The post holder will possess a high level of interpersonal and oral skills along with the ability to negotiate and influence at all levels especially when giving evidence at court.

You will need to have a flexible approach and be aware of operational security. You will also need a sound knowledge of evidence and procedures in particular reference to legislation concerning Disclosure, RIPA and presentation of evidence.

Due to the strong probability of viewing all manners of disturbing material you will be expected to be psychologically screened and interviewed prior to and while in post.




Key Responsibilities

Digital Forensic Analysts manage, examine and analyse high priority cases and technically complex digital devices. They will be competent and highly skilled in the examination of a wide range of digital devices. They can be trained in either computer and/or mobile phone devices. They will deliver against those cases that represent the greatest threat, risk and harm being investigated by both forces.

DFA’s produce digital examination strategies in agreement with the investigator and CPS working to strict timescales within an environment of high demand. They will provide advice and support to investigators regarding the handling, recovery and preservation of digital evidence and complete written reports and statements, presenting evidence for court.

The role incorporates that of a ‘Duty Officer’ who on a rotational basis will be responsible for dealing with cases of a priority nature.

Skills & Experience

▫ Good standard of education with proven numeracy and literacy skills at a higher education level (Degree level or equivalent).

▫ To be IT literate, ideally with previous significant experience in a computer related or law enforcement environment or possess academic achievements related to role (i.e. computer forensic degree or working towards one)

▫ Good knowledge and understanding of digital imaging techniques including the electronic extraction of data and reporting on such findings.

▫ Good working knowledge of using a variety of computer software applications together with disassembling / assembling computer hardware.

▫ A good understanding of digital forensics including the application and implications of ISO 17025.

▫ Evidence of working independently within an investigative / analytical environment.

▫ Excellent Interpersonal skills particularly the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders using negotiating and influencing techniques.

▫ Problem solve in a fast paced, dynamic environment
▫ Willingness to learn specific forensic computer software applications. Together with an aptitude and willingness for continuous learning and professional development.

▫ Self motivated and proven experience of working methodically and patiently, often to deadlines, with minimal supervision.

▫ Strong attention to detail.

▫ Able to evidence excellent written and verbal communication skills (including report writing).

▫ Ability to motivate and develop others with confidence to provide feedback in an appropriate manner.

▫ Proven ability of managing high workloads often with conflicting priorities

▫ Awareness of exhibit handling procedures (especially continuity and integrity).

▫ Able to demonstrate problem solving skills (including analysis and interpretation).

▫ Capable of absolute discretion when dealing with casework of a highly sensitive and confidential nature.
