The Role
PublicProtection are seeking to fill 2 x Detective Sergeant vacancies on West Sussex Safeguarding Investigations Unit (SIU) . SIU have 2 offices in West Sussex – Littlehampton and Crawley.
Applications are invited from substantive Detective Sergeants or Sergeants who are in the process of completing their ICIDP and have nearly completed this.

This is a really exciting opportunity to lead and oversee serious and complex crime investigations that target perpetrators exploiting vulnerable victims and causing significant harm to our communities.
You will lead a team of Detectives and Investigators, focussed on protecting victims by delivering positive criminal justice outcomes and robust safeguarding strategies.
This is an exceptionally rewarding role that produces some of the highest custodial sentences in the Force and truly makes a difference to people’s lives. The range of exciting and interesting investigations is broad, spanning rape, serious sexual assaults, high-risk domestic abuse and stalking and adult/childabuse. Effective partnership working, both with internal and external stakeholders, is necessary to effectively safeguard those at risk and take advantage of the broad range of skills, resources and abilities required to keep people safe.
Key Responsibilities
1. Investigate and manage serious and complex criminal investigations including leading the investigative response to critical incidents. Identifying risk and implementing robust risk management plans.
2. Protecting victims and targeting perpetrators causing the most harm by effectively managing your team to deliver positive outcomes.
3. Ensuring the highest professional and investigative standards are maintained in all cases in accordance with Force Policy and the Victim Code.
4. Working effectively with partner agencies to reduce harm and safeguard vulnerable people.
5. Improve investigative standards ensuring prosecution case files are always of a high quality. 6. Supporting the West Sussex Night Turn DS Cadre
Skills & Experience
Applicants will be expected to have strong leadership skills and a proven record of delivering successful outcomes and managing staff effectively.
Knowledge of legislation relevant to the role i.e. Sexual Offences Act 2003 and any previous experience in safeguarding is desirable but a good understanding of investigations and disclosure is required.
Key attributes for this post are leadership, positivity, motivation and determination to make a difference. Confidence to manage risk and work effectively with all stakeholders is crucial.
The successful candidate will be resilient, a good communicator and an effective leader.
