The Role
The post holder will work with another DI sharing leadership of Crawley CID and its staff.
The operational oversight of the supervisors and investigating staff within Crawley CID - and leading serious crime investigations are key components to the role.
The position will include supporting divisional portfolios aimed at driving investigative excellence across West Sussex.
This role comes with an expectation for the post holder to contribute to the divisional Detective Inspector call rota which includes late turn working, overnight call function and weekend working.
The role is challenging but extremely rewarding and provides an excellent opportunity for development.
Key Responsibilities
The role will include:
You will lead serious crime PIP 2 investigations as senior investigating officer or deputy senior investigating officer. You will use investigative policy and strategy to coordinate investigative resources - working closely with other divisional teams and other partnership agencies.
You will share oversight of the day to day management of staff involved in PIP 1 and 2 crime investigations. This will include ensuring systems and processes are as efficient and effective as possible.
You will develop supervisors and their staff through use of regular FOCUS meetings, supportive attendance management and other actions promoting staff welfare.
You will support divisional and force efforts to increase performance through regular use of PowerBI - helping investigative staff focus their efforts and manage competing demands. This will include supporting the division in specific portfolio areas.
You'll participate in the DI call-rota, contributing to a rota organising late-turn and overnight call function. This will include weekend duties.
Skills & Experience
Essential role requirements:
Substantive Detective Inspector or Inspector (Inspector with NIE pass/accreditation).
Desirable skills and experience:
High levels of self-motivation, initiative, enthusiasm and resilience. The ability to work independently but also as part of a divisional team.
Experience in serious crime investigation including case-file quality and standards and Crown Court experience.
Ability to drive and motivate performance as well as balancing staff support, welfare and getting the best out of people.
Possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with individuals and organisations - from a variety of backgrounds and circumstances.
Have a high level of organisational skill and decision-making confidence - including decision making around risk, threat and harm within the context of serious crime investigations.
