Working Hours - 37.0 Hours per Week
The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.
The Role
A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Local Policing Support Team as a Designing Out Crime Officer. The role involves providing specialist design advice and guidance to Local Authorities, County Councils, Architects, Builders and Developers. This advice is given in order to prevent or reduce crime, disorder, anti-social behaviour and the fear of crime, at every stage of architectural design, from pre-planning to the full development control process. The aim of this advice is to adhere to the principles of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) – this acknowledges that the built environment can influence human behaviour.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for all enquiries relating to the design out crime role across Sussex, together with another team member, based at Sussex Police Headquarters in Lewes. The job affords flexible working opportunities and is busy and varied. You are required to hold a full driving licence and will need to undertake the Basic Driving Assessment (BDA) within force. You will have strong communication skills and be IT literate.

Skills & Experience
Essential qualifications:
• Approved course from Home Office for Crime Prevention.
• Approved course from Home Office for Designing Out Crime.
• IT Skills including Microsoft Office
• Full Driving Licence
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
• Experience of working with voluntary, statutory, social or community groups or government bodies.
• Experience of managing complex tasks.
• Experience of working to timescales and deadlines demonstrating strong planning and organisational skills.
• Able to produce a high standard of written communication, appropriate for the purpose and audience, including papers, reports, guidance, and updates.
• Experience of providing a high level of customer service.
• Ability to work without direct supervision and demonstrate a high level of self-management, motivation, drive and determination.
