The Role & Key Responsibilities
To provide a comprehensive and professional crime prevention consultancy, specialist advisory and support service to the public, victims of crime, colleagues, and partner agencies in relation to crime reduction and designing out crime.
To implement and thereafter ensure the success of crime reduction strategies by working in partnership with Safer Neighbourhood Teams and external agencies, including carrying out the actions from the Joint Action Group meetings to reduce levels of crime.
To work with local intelligence analysts and use analytical products to tackle seasonal crime trends and identify areas with high rates of crime or anti-social behaviour and target activities with appropriate crime reduction strategies.
To proactively promote personal safety and physical security through the media, public speaking, public displays and by providing appropriate training, advice and guidance to partner agencies and community groups.
To proactively promote the principles of crime reduction to Surrey Police staff and deliver the force crime reduction training package to Safer Neighbourhood Teams or other teams on request, and where beneficial to do so.
To influence and encourage planners, designers, and developers to incorporate crime reduction measures, including counter-terrorism protective security into their development projects.
To promote accreditation's in Secure by Design (SBD), Park Mark and other relevant security award schemes.
To be the Borough lead in completing business surveys and home security surveys for vulnerable premises or victims of crime or provide a written report if requested.
Skills & Experience
- Proven and well evidenced experience in the field of crime reduction, problem solving and Neighbourhood Policing.
- Has passed or could attend and pass the. the Level 4 Certificate (Crime Prevention for Practitioners) within 6mths of start date and the Level 5 Diploma (Designing Out Crime) within the first 12-24mths
- Proven experience of displaying innovative and creative approaches to problem solving with the ability to evidence positive results and outcomes.
- Demonstrable experience of working directly with members of the public and proven evidence of speaking publicly to stakeholders and partner organisations.
- Demonstrable experience and a proven record of self-motivation, flexibility, drive, enthusiasm and initiative to be able to work with minimum supervision, alone or as part of a team.
- The ability to manage time and prioritise effectively with an aptitude to plan and respond flexibly to changing demands in a multi project environment.
- The ability to motivate others to engage in delivering outcome-based solutions and to influence and co-ordinate their activities and efforts in crime reduction.
- The ability to assimilate policies and procedures in relation to relevant British Standards and crime reduction legislation.
- Excellent communication skills at all levels to enable clear and concise verbal and written communication. Including experience of report writing, making presentations and delivering training, using non-technical language where necessary to impart information.
- Well-developed computer skills and experience in using Microsoft products such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint with the ability to become proficient in Surrey Police IT systems.
- The post holder will be expected to be flexible on where and when they work, when away from the office.
