Full Time Counter Terror Specialist Firearms Officer (CTSFO)
Thames Valley, Hampshire, Kent, Surrey and Sussex have opportunities for Sergeants (Surrey, Sussex and Kent only) and Constables to be trained as Counter Terror Specialist Firearms Officers (CTSFO); subject to the successful completion of a two day assessment centre, after which officers will be held in a pool for up to two years while vacancies arise.
Officers will initially embark on a series of National Pathway courses – broken down into modules - qualifying them as a Specialist Firearms Officer (11 weeks in total). Thereafter, attend a 5 week up skills course to Counter Terror Specialist Firearms Officer.

Key Responsibilities

The role holder will then form part of the South East Region CTSFO Hub; with bases at both Sulhamstead near Reading and Gatwick Airport. Deploying as part of a National response to an extreme threat and to covert or overt operations involving an identified threat to life.
Outside of specialist operations the team will provide support to the Region on firearms operations across the South East. They may also provide support to divisional policing using specialist tactics in an unarmed capacity.

Skills & Experience

Essential Criteria:
• Occupationally competent and operationally deployable Armed Response Officer trained to the NPFTC role profile.
• Single System of Search trained (SSS) to D4 level
• Trained in use of the Glock handgun and your own Force’s choice of Carbine.
• Be an advanced driver.
• Be willing to undergo up skill to CTSFO within 18 – 24 month period.
• Achieve SC Vetting Clearance.

Desirable Criteria:
• Nationally trained as a Specialist Firearms Officer or CTSFO.
• Currently accredited as a Firearms Tactical Advisor or prepared to be trained as one.
• Currently trained to D13 AFO First Aid Standard or be prepared to train to Enhanced level
• Be an advanced motorcyclist

Candidates must also be able to confirm and provide proof of:
• Not being subject to any informal or formal action plans for sickness/complaints/discipline or unsatisfactory performance;
• A Competent rating, or above, was achieved on the last reporting year for their PDR or equivalent.
• Their firearms training records for the past three years, including ARV and any specialist skills.

Assessment Centre
Applicants successful through paper sift will then be invited to attend a Selection Centre process on the 17th and 18th July 2019 in Sulhamstead near Reading. Further detail will be made available nearer the time.
If successful through this process, officers will be notified at the end of day two and subsequently in writing confirming course dates.
